Flatbed rates are sky high right now. Wait until they come down and conestoga doesnt make any more money on average than regular flat unless u have a good in somewhere.. plus u have more maintenance . all it takes is a dumb propane jockey to hit ur slide rail and ur curtain wont close. Then ur out of work until its fixed. Ask @pavrom about that

So all conestoga does it is an alternate method of tarping. In practice, does it justify its expense for regular flatbeders? Is it an upgrade that is an investment allowing access to specific freight or rather a convenience of not having to tarp?

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

In my situation It's just no tarp flatbed - flatbed light because I don't have anything dedicated.
You will not be able to take all flatbed freight because of weight and loading possibilities. Some shipper don't load Conestoga.
But you can make more on Conestoga only loads.

My rates are good because of a good dispatch, trip planning and negotiations. By such tight market we always making much better $$ than the average.

I don't use the factoring. The rates are negotiated with brokers so they are round.

You mind from Landstar to own?
I wanted go to my own authority last year. I was leased to a good carrier. Did IRP and IFTA by myself.

After COVID lockdown I decided to try the Landstar because of their direct customer and hazmat freight. Spot market was dead and starting new authority was not the best decision at that time.

After the market went so hot I activated my MC, I was opened 4 years ago to be able to get the access to the Loadboard only.

Yes. Most general flatbed freight will load but you have to ask the shipper for size of the load. I pull a curtain side and haul both dry van and flatbed freight.
