    Everything worked out, I'm staying with this guy for as long as i can. Love this company, so do all the other drivers. Just talked to a guy and said he's driven for 26 years and this is the best company he has ever worked for.

    They were rgn`s that were customized for specific boats. Only loads back were from customers back to factory that were rare.

    I cant believe swift pays so little. $800 gross per week to leave home. If I make average $1,200-$1,350 running local if this country was extremely desperate and needed OTR drivers it would take 100k for me to consider.

    I only got back into trucking because I know this will be one of the few jobs out there in the "greater" depression. But yea, the pay is kinda of a joke based on the amount of sacrifice one has to commit to... being on the road 25+ days a month... hence why everyone wants to work local asap.

    Jesus Christ you're getting 40cpm?

    I was calling around, because I'm getting bored unemployed & itching to drive, and employers offering everywhere from 47-62cpm, many of them in the 50s... granted that's northeast regional mostly, and only about 2k miles a week, but hell 2,000mi x 62cpm = 1240 a week, almost what you're making but for driving 40% less!

    Idc if you live in alabama, you shouldn't be working that cheap w/ experience, period.

    Call up Crete, they got 60cpm-ish dedicated, and smith transport pays 60cpm I hear, Roehl will give you a 53cpm first year pay, but it gets shaky after that.

    I've looked at those large carriers. I am pretty sure I am not going to get hired from most companies are I've had several out of service violations, 1 being 14 hour violation.

    it's free to ask. it can't hurt.

    they are more worried about accidents. I had an accident & 1 outta service, they still offered me a job.

    Remember: megas are mega, they are a lil more hard-up for experienced drivers, & can afford to insure riskier folks because of sheer scale.

    call and ask.... doesn't hurt to ask!

    And the longer your thread goes, the bigger the numbers are gonna be, more perks, blah.

    yeah lemme repeat: 700mi/day is RIDONKULOUS.

    you don't gotta drive that much to earn a living!

    at 40cpm that's 280 a day! you can make that driving a little over 500mi/day at 50cpm!!!!

    if you don't shop around, you'll be stuck forever where you're at, but if you find a good place to go, then you can jump outta this kettle you're in before it cooks ur roast!

    I look at over the road truck driving as far as pay goes in pretty simple terms. You’re going to live on a truck, correct? In my case in my second year I will live on this truck 330 out of 362 days. I typically stay out no less than 30 days straight. I don’t look at it in terms of cents per mile and all that other nonsense because there’s different routes and different lanes that different companies run. If I’m driving to New York or Chicago every day that’s a different story. But I’m not.

    I look at it like this. You’re a company, you’re asking me to live in a tin box and be at your disposal 24/7. Yeah I know I get a 10 hour break but the reality is when you say jump I’m supposed to say “how high” and get your loads there.

    The average Uber driver in my town or pizza delivery guy, in a five hour shift could make 100 bucks. if he put in the hours I did? He could probably make $200 a day. And still go home. .....And go home and ravage his wife and pet his dog every night. So for me? I better get net pay; as in....in my pocket at least $1000 a week to make it worthwhile to be out here. Because there’s about 102 things that I could go to and make at least a buck a day.

    All the responsibilities and risk and everything else that goes with being a commercial driver? Are you kidding me? Plus I get to live where I work? To me, after taxes and all expenses you should be making $200 a day. Do I make that much? No, I average about $1000 a week take-home. Sometimes a few hundred dollars less, sometimes a few hundred dollars more. but it just gives you something to think about. When some high school kid can make $100 in five hours driving people around locally, or delivering pizza and he’s bringing home more than you? There’s something wrong.
