Yes it includes a basic BMI check, but only for sleep apnea, blood pressure, and other related things. You won't be denied as long as your honest and upfront with everything. We had some BIG fellas on orientation last week and they are all driving.

Before I forget. 4th day of orientation. we were divided up into noobs and experienced drivers. We met our associated FM's and talked about what to expect. The noobs were introduced to the general knowledge (again) of what to expect. (Payroll, logs, qualcomm, etc...) had lunch, then off we went. Not a bad week, in all...
If anyone DOES go to orientation, you HAVE to try a local restaurant called Crawdaddies. OMFG, the prime rib is outstanding!!! Little bit to get there if you don't drive, but totally worth it. A few of us went to logan's steakhouse right up the road from the hotel, and it was pretty darn good. But when we went to Crawdaddies on the last day, we all agreed that we should have come here first. I'm tellin' ya... even the fried okra was the best I've tasted.
Now, I'm hungry...
EDIT:
Also... they have a prohibited list of what goes in the truck. It is:
Coffee makers, Convection ovens, Hot Plates, Toasters, Waffle Iron, Griddles, Electric frying pans, Furnace fan, Iron, Space heater, Power tools, Christmas lights
... and yes someone had all of these in the trucks at one point! LOL The only one I'm having a problem with is the coffee maker. If you want me to function... COFFEE, dang it!!Last edited: Jun 13, 2014

Thanks for the recommendation on Crawdaddy's! Heading to Cookeville tomorrow and will certainly give it a try.

Recruiter stopped calling me so I don't think she plans on working with me to try to get a closer trainer.
-
-
Well, I'll find out what my trainer does/uses tomorrow. That is going to be one of the first things I ask about.
-
Did you have to be clean shaven at orientation? Heard they changed policy??
-
I arrived clean shaven, yes, and they did in fact change the policy, but that doesn't mean that they won't still have orientation as such. The website has not changed yet so I would still continue to go with what the recruiter says, if you are going.

So...
First week of training is done. Long week is long though. Started out with a breakdown while in NC; then onto PA for a HAZMAT pickup. gross weight 79225; Man what a beast to maneuver down a 6% grade!while taking that load to Fl, got stopped in GA for a DOT inspection. (Inspector had a HAZMAT quota, and saw the truck, so said why not.) zero hits, but it did mess up the time a little bit. From Fl we went to Nashville to pick up the trainers new truck. 2014 freightliner cascadia. VERY nice truck to drive, but I'm not going to get used to it; Knowing my luck, I'm getting the backyard POS. LOL Picked up a load from Nashville to take home, and had some issues with that crap, so instead of 6AM sat morning, we got back a 1:30PM. not bad, mind you, but I still had a 2 1/2 hour drive to get me home, so 4 PM VA time I'm back at the house.
but training is training... The guy has 15 plus years driving, but I get the distinct impression that he doesn't give a hoot any more. Some questions that I asked got the response of "That's not my job" That is for a mechanic to do. I also asked what engine it has, and he had to think about it for a hot second before replying cummings (in a tone that wasn't very confident to me) but whatever... I'm in this to learn from and move on... Do my thing and move up the the world, but I will admit it was kinda nice just being out there driving and not having a care in the world.
