Hopefully you have a trainer that will ACTUALLY TEACH you something......many just put up with the trainee, so they get paid for ALL the miles run, and then the training bonus at the end.....Make sure he/she EXPLAINS AXLE SETTINGS ON THE TRAILER, WHEN AND WHY YOU SLIDE YOUR FIFTH WHEEL, WHY YOU SHOULD LOWER YOUR LANDING GEAR UNTIL IT'S ABOUT A INCH OFF THE GROUND, DUMP YOUR AIRBAGS, THEN PULL OUT, WHY YOU SHOULD LOCK YOUR TRL TANDEMS IN AFTER SLIDING THEM ALL THE WAY BACK WHEN DROPPING AT A CUSTOMER. WHY YOU SHOULD SWEEP YOUR TRAILER OUT, WHY YOU SHOULD DO YOU POST TRIP WALK AROUND, WHY YOU SHOULD NOT DISCONNECT THE ABS LIGHT ON THE TRAILER, WHAT YOU SHOULD DO WHEN YOU FIND 11R TIRES ON A TRAILER EQUIPED WITH 275/22.5 LOW PRO'S, WHY YOU ARE REQUIRED TO REMOVE THE PLACARDS ON THE TRL AFTER YOU UNLOADED.......ALSO ASK THEM WHY THEY ARE GETTING INTO THE BUNK WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING, INSTEAD OF SITTING IN THE RIGHT SEAT, ASK THEM WHY WHEN AT A SERCTR THEY ARE NOT HAVING YOU PRACTICE BACKING INTO PARKING SPOTS OR MT DOCK SPACES.....IF THEY DON'T ANSWER OR GIVE A DUMB ONE....THEY ARE NOT A GOOD TRAINER!

We might have... I was at Cookeville then. I'm in training now, but will be running out of Norfolk, VA. Ring a bell? If I saw you, I'd know for sure, but I'm horrible with names. LOL -

Second week of training done. Not much I can say other than it I'm glad it's over with. I know I'll make mistakes, but I'm pretty sure I've learned more from this forum than what he is trying to teach. I'm not saying is isn't a decent driver... He just doesn't know HOW to teach. "DO THIS" with no explanation or very little as to why. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I still figure things out dang quick, so I'll be alright.
My only drawback so far is not a lot of time backing, so I try to get some in whenever I get the chance. We tried a service center earlier this week and got fussed at about being in the way of the yard jockeys. LOL -
Sounds like you had my old PAM trainer. Except his way of training was to let you screw up then scream at you for it -.-

Nukem Thanks this.

I drive truck 14286, 13 ProStar, if I'm not sleeping, come on over, I may look like a OLD GROUCH, but really I'm not....I'll answer any questions you have...sounds like your SO-CALLED trainer is a A-hole!
Hope his name is not Richard and from AVRT AUG!Nukem Thanks this. -
Thanks, if I see you I will DEFINITELY look you up and my trainer is out of ENC.
We're taking a load to TX this week, so depending on the SC, I might try some more backing... Who knows, I may even try to get the customer to let me back into the docks a few times if they have some open. -
I'm sorry your training isn't going well Nukem. Maybe you'll get what you need from somewhere, even if its advice on here. My trainer is a good on that is easy to get along with, who wants you as good as him. He does want it right, but he doesn't yell at ya. We're in week three, two more to go. Then one week of backing school. I've found out that they have several backing schools, and I will be in Decatur. Good luck!!!!
