Well I have just spent some considerable time reading this entire thread. One thing I have discovered in this industry is that a problem is never the driver's fault. It's always the company screwing them over. Nobody EVER gets fired because of something they did... like a preventable accident, etc. But then our society in general now teaches us we are all victims and we don't have to take responsibility for anything anymore. Sigh. Marten seems to be a great company if you can get in. I have not been perfect so far in my driving career, so I may not make it in even if I do try. No majors, no DOT preventables, but I have scratched paint once or twice.
BTW - Skibum, the nickname "Bluebird" isn't because the trucks are or were blue. It is because the BIRD is blue, the marten. And no matter what color the truck is, that blue marten bird is still on it! :biggrin_25525:

Hey gypsycowgirl, I was thinking about driving for Marten, but when I asked the recruiter what would happen if I refused a load load to NYC (I'm a rookie and NYC makes me um um nervous) she said they'd fire me! How often do you folks have to go to NYC? Should I just take the job and worry about it later, do you think? I've never heard a recruiter be so blunt before!

Been with Marten 4 years myself, have yet to go into the city. Been across the river, but not into the city.Ya i know it's differant.
If you don't want to take that chance, depending where you live, there may a regional position that could work for you, with the exception of our Mid Atlantic region.

I don't understand. Did they fire you because of the content of the photos or because you took them while driving? And if you took them while driving, how did they know it was you? You can't see your truck number or even company name from a photo taken inside the truck.

You will be charged for your bus ticket as well as your physical and hotel and transportation to orientation when you started there. They will deduct it from your pay and you already signed paperwork agreeing to that in orientation or they wouldn't have hired you.

If it's in the paperwork YOU signed, you won't have much success there. That's standard operating procedure for some companies.

So i'd like to know what the BBB can do to a trucking company? Other than write a statement, either recommending to use them , or not to use them.
The BBB has no recourse over trucking companies.

Are the vids still on youtube?

Nothing unethical about it this is normal op for most companies. Besides it is in the paperwork you signed they also point this out in the orientation and tell you if you leave within the first 6months or if you are fired for any reason in the first 6 months you will owe them this money. Just like an o/o if I pull my truck in the first 6 months or my contact is teminated for any reason I must pay as well and I have to pay for the plate which I think is $1650.
I know this going in so if something happens then oh well **** happens.

My suggestion just deal with it, you signed the paper end of story.
As to why they fired you uhmm.... Yeah they had the right, your driving down the road taking pix at the same time....ever heard of distractive driving? If you where driving my truck and I found out you were taking pix while driving I would do the same thing.
