I dunno about Marten or reefers, I run regional flatbed. But I'm not seeing the low freight. I run every day, had to skip my usual 34 last weekend because I was too busy. The only thing I can think of is that my dispatcher is top notch. From what I can tell it's not the lack of freight that's killing you guys, it's the lazy office people.
Avoid Marten Transport LTD.

I will be hooked back to my step deck within the next 2 weeks.Just have to get back to the house and wash her up and get my rack back on and then a step'n we will go.
-
Sounds like the way to go. I'm not making the big miles but I get a load off and another one on every day, two sometimes if there a short hop. The guys in the office tell me the truck is making very good money so I figure an o/o could do pretty good.

Tell us more as to why you quite or were terminated by Marten this information will be useful for Drivers considering working for this company.

Sounds like Marten is self insuring on Medical Insurance. It's the latest, greatest scam. When a company opts to self insure they hire a company like signa or blue cross to run the plan. However, The premiums and marten's money are at risk, not the administering company. At the end of the year, if Marten has spent less to run the plan then it collected in premiums guess who keeps that money as profit.

I seriously wish that you were joking....

But on a final note, where are you getting your facts? -
He isn't kidding but on the other hand he isn't correct either. Some drivers just like to post hear say and rummor before checking out the facts.

They're not facts, they're wonky math.
The way I understand per diem, you're paid less now, but less of it is eligible for taxation. So, over the course of the year, you're paid 36k. If you weren't on per diem, you'd have been paid 40k. Highway robbery, right?
Well, if you consider the fact that the 40k gross is taxable, and taxes usually run 10-15% depending on your state you're looking at keeping 34k-36k of the 40 gross.
It's roughly a wash and the company gets a tax break, too.
Now, I've not been on per diem, so I'll get back to you when I've got six months to actually look at (and I'm not working on theoretical math). But this is the way it works based on my research.
Seriously, some of you guys are so hellbent on write-offs and I can't figure out why. You'll be wealthier in the long run with good budgeting and careful expenditure than by paper-jockeying the government out of $2,000-$5,000 every year that disappears before it earns a dime in interest. -
What do you think the health insurance companies are doing? Operating a charity? Marten's just borrowing their business strategy.
-
You got that right!!!
