MHC Kenworth Sales, Repair, & Finance is GARBAGE!!!!

A O/O friend bought his 1st truck at an MHC Kenworth truck sales in northern Colorado back in 2015. He plunked down $1k deposit on a Pete and they sold it out from under him. Instead presented him with a 2012 T680 KW w/ PACCAR motor. Would not give his initial deposit back. He put $20k total down against $70k It had codes in it. Lied to him & cleared them repeatedly citing it's something minor.

Fast-forward 2016, I personally drove the truck from Canton, OH to Phoenix, AZ shop. It went haywire with codes towards the end. We took it to a KW shop in Phoenix.....It had 8 pages of codes. 8 PAGES OF CODE!!! Some codes were active persistent codes b4 he even bought the truck!!! $5k later....find there was a cut in the ECM engine electrical harness.

Fastforward 2017 His coolant hoses are randomly blowing off. He took it to an MHC Kenworth in Georgia. They said the head no good and it building pressure internally. Candidly told him the issue been there all along. They said he needs to rebuild the engine.... $18k-$20k. Truck also had a DEF/DPF issue. They left something on inside the truck for 2 weeks and said he needed to buy new batteries....WHEN THE TRUCK ROLLED IN FINE ON IT'S OWN WITH THE CHARGING SYSTEM WORKING FINE!!! He called corporate and made them replace the batteries at their cost. That shop developed a vendetta against him.

MHC Finance meseed up his loan and made it look like his down is part of the loan. MHC sales & finance refuses to lift a finger to rectify any of this.

    They basically stole his $$$

STAY AWAY FROM MHC NATIONWIDE. THEY ARE RIPOFF ARTIST.

well frankly, he caved in and gave them MORE money. he should have backed out, then sought ways to get his $1,000 back. now he's sunk. who do i blame here?

    your buddy in all reality.

maybe the dealerships is shady, i mean selling a rig to someone else, that he put a deposit on, that stinks, but was he that hard up for a truck, he couldn;t wait a bit longer?

if he had that additional $20K, that tells me he could have gone someplace else.

Not business savvy nor knows nothing about trucks. SHRUG. It's a warning really to others, but how could all 3 divisions of a company suck so bad....unless the entire company sucks.

I'm sorry to hear your friend got burned.

There should have been an agreement to fix all issues noted before signing the purchase papers. While yes I do agree it was shady of the dealer to sell a truck with known issues, at the end of the day your friend was aware of the fault codes and still chose to purchase the truck despite that fact. I know the truth is harsh but the fact is your friend didn't do their proper homework on a truck purchase and got burned. Hopefully next go around they will know what to have done as far as checks, the proper questions to ask and when to just walk away from a truck. Its a harsh learning experience for sure.

There are literally dozens of threads on here about the proper way to purchase a used truck. A truck purchase is not at all like going to a car dealership, where you drive around the block once and then buy it.

then you realistically cannot say the company is garbage. he had a choice to walk away and recoup his deposit. he had a choice to buy maybe even a better truck than what he first picked, since he "dropped" an additional $20K.

you were there to witness all of this crap that happened?

are YOU business savvy? if so, why didn't YOU tell him to leave ASAP when they sold the truck out from under him?

from what i can gather, there may be more to the story, since you are in the middle and being a spokesman for "your buddy".

it's not the over all PACCAR that sucks, maybe just that one place. and certainly "your buddy's" lack of business sense.

Also, it appears from your post that it was about 2 years from the purchase date to when they discovered the head issues. I have a hard time believing a truck ran that long with a blown head gasket/cracked head without showing any prior symptoms. I don't know much about the Paccar engines but is it possible they were referring to that particular engine model as having head issues and not specifically the engine in your friend's truck?

To the OP, the first thing you friend needs to do is learn how to use a computer so he can ask his own questions. I'm 70 yrs old, if I can use one anyone can. Can't imagine being computer illiterate in this day and age.

    Ahh, the famous 'O/O friend'.

OK, I'm standing in the MHC dealer and they tell me they are not selling me the truck I thought I was getting but are replacing it with a POS and keeping my $1000. Am I really going to reach for my check book and give them more money? Really?! I call BS on half the story we got and i am waiting for the other half we are not getting.
I have done business with MHC and found them OK. My 2c.
