While I can’t speak on the money they were earning at a whopping $1 a mile plus fsc I met plenty of drivers who completed a lease purchase at Werner 7 or so ish years ago. At the time they had a ton of retired Freightliner Classic XLs, Century Classes, Kenworth T600s with Cats, and even some Peterbilt 379s. A lot easier back in the day when you’re getting a used reliable truck under lease purchase. As far as today.... never met anyone that has paid off their $160,000 plus loan either.
Avoid Roadrunner lease purchase or any other

Not everybody is cut out for over size loads on flat beds and paying for the safety parade around them. The majority of loads are not well paying, that does not mean drivers are stupid. At least they are drug free trying to make a living babysitting stupid 4 wheelers and deserve better.
Investors are not aware why lease purchase are unethical and they hang out on LinkedIn, and so do major players pushing these unethical arrangements Embarrass the big players they stop. Do nothing they shrug. -
The minute they hand you a fuel card and you you use it game over. They become your banker. Some require you use it to do IFTA reporting, so you have to do that, and done manually its a couple hrs a week sometimes.

Fleece purchased my truck from Central Refrigerated 4yrs ago while I was a rookie. Busted my hump, worked very hard and finished the 1yr lease. When time had come to either trade it in or buy it out I bought it. Then left. Now here I am with a paid off truck and my own trailer working when I feel like it. It has 755k miles on it now though. It is possible.

Total out the door for me for my truck was $53,400. I inherited the $15k escrow account from the previous lessee. She wanted a KW T680 so I took over her lease on the volvo with 180k miles on it. Nobody wanted this little blue truck so they cut me a deal. I personally only ever drove Volvos so it was no big deal. I really wanted a VNL780 with the bigger sleeper but this was a good deal so I grabbed it. Been a good little truck.
