It's not just the large companies anymore. I've seen my fare share of small shops treating drivers like the crap you scrape off of the bottom of your shoes.

For the record, I'm not a Teamster. The union im associated with is the APWU, or American Postal Workers Union. Within the next 10 years I can see a rise in union membership. Maybe not Teamsters, but smaller unions. Per-income household numbers don't lie. There's a link between the fall in union membership and the fall of the middle class.

    The Patriot Thanks this.

I'll tell you folks something...If I can start over,Id be Union, No question...And its more than just Wages and premium benefits, its a FOUNDATION, Its a place you can retire from and create a life for you and your family........

As a Driver, There are ONLY 2 ways to succeed in this business without being 'cheated' by someone

1,Union driver for a carrier or City/State/government job

    2. Independent carrier with 100% of their own customers (no brokers/3pl middlemen)

ANY other form of driving, you as a driver will embellish some form of financial sacrifice to strengthen the 'bottom line' of someone else..

that Right there should make your blood Boil something else

    This isn't an opinion..Its a FACT.

The Patriot and Flybynight041 Thank this.

Stayingback hit the nail on the head.

I spent the last 2 years looking for an OTR job that fits my criteria. This is what I was looking for:

    1) 50 cpm to start with, with 1 cpm increases every 6 months until I cap at 65 cpm. Per diem not included. Steady miles. 2500+ miles a week.

    2) No aero trucks. Long noses only.

    3) No governors

    4) No elogs

    5) 401k matching up to 5%.

    6) Pay 30% of my phone bill, since I'm using it for work related tasks.

    7) Good health, dental and vision benefits that the company covers 100%.

8] Every holiday off with pay. Every weekend off. One MONTH paid time off per year.

I have found one thing out in 2 years. What I am looking for doesnt exist outside the union/LTL world.
