I traded being out most of a month and home 3 days for driving in chicago traffic every single day and home every night! If all goes well I will never go back.

Have a balance in life, take time to do some things to do while on the road as a distraction to the road on your downtime and do it as a routine. Any hobby will do, but something that is rewarding.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
i used to run from winnipeg mb canada to st.paul mn and back 3 times a week. 7.45 hrs total trip one way. thats 12,000 mi a month for 12 trips. even though i was home once a week for a day it was a hard trip running the same lane over and over and over. i found switching to nights and having "habbit stops" and makeing freinds at those stops really changed the pace for me.

Start an interesting hobby such using a slingshot to shoot Cherry Bomb fireworks or glass marbles 100 yards then with binoculars study human reaction.

How can you avoid burn-out OTR???
Have a job exchange program with your dispatcher or fleet manager or whatever you respond to. For 3-4 months a year, switch jobs, deal with other idiot drivers who can't get the job done. No more driver burn-out the remaining 8-9 months -
Great advice. Thanks for all the helpful tips AND the laughs.
