didn't read all the posts but one of the major differences between flat bedders and door slammers is flat bedders aren't in the bunk while getting loaded. They are watching and supervising the loading. As for securing a flimsy crate, I will sonetimes knock holes in the sides to pass the straps right through so I can secure what's in the crate (like pipes or shafts or whatever) instead of crushing the crate.

I got a comment from the boss's son about me not wanting the machine to move. We were unloading at our yard. I told him that is not something that you will ever have to worry about is something coming off of my trailer. 7 -1/2" chains on a 64k log loader but 4 of those chains only went from the securement point to the trailer so the WLL was cut in half. The POS was going in for scrap so you can imagine the condition of this log loader so I made sure that nothing could move at all. No brakes and barely able to move on it's own. Besides we have one of those DOT officers here that can look at your tires doing 70 mph the opposite direction and tell if you are overloaded.

He had me dead to rights once being 105' long until I showed him the permit for 120'... LOL
