Well I took your post to be a bit sarcastic, accepting responsibility and the PS as humorous.
Obviously not all did. It won't be easy with those tickets. Can it be done? I'd bet it can but it'll be a tough row to hoe and filled with no's. -

I enjoy reading all threads and gain insight from them. I simply thought that by the time I receive my CDL "A" and spend some time in the Los Angeles area knocking on doors, another year would have passed and (then) I might find someone to hire.
I just have always enjoyed the thought of seeking this venue as an avocation. I most assuredly DO NOT think the truck driving industry is an easy, simple type of job.
That being said, remember . . "If one man can - another man can" (with all due respect to women, that was the quote)
I wanted opinions as to the comment that having three points precluded me for at least 5 and up to 10 years.
As to offense taken at my humor (attempt) . . . Oh Well.
As to Ronin,
[Not funny. If you had been here for several years, and aimed it at someone in particular, perhaps.] [and wished this guy was speaking to me in person.]
my sincere apologies, and if and when I get to San Antonio, I will post to here and let you know where I am staying so you CAN speak to me IN PERSON. And perhaps accept my apology in person
Steve NelsonWargames, wsyrob, BigJohn54 and 1 other person Thank this. -
From a guy that works in a safety department the best way to avoid tickets is to run legal. Don't let dispatch push you harder than you can run. Make sure you do a complete pre trip inspection and check your equipment every time stop. If something is unsafe get it fixed. Watch your speed that's the dumbest reason to get stopped especially if you are over your HOS.
Wargames Thanks this. -
To answer your question yes given a truck that can go the speed limit it would be very easy to average 68 MPH for that trip without breaking the speed limit. I would run that I-10, I-20, I-85. Its only about 50 miles longer than shooting up to I-40 and a lot less hilly. You will still have construction zones and 55 mph speed limits around cities but the high speed limits out west would make up for the 65 and below. Avoid rush hours around big cities and you should be good. -
If you don't mind some tasteless humor and foul language and aren't easily offended, check out Chris Rock's instructions on how not to get your butt kicked by the police.
I won't link it directly, but you can find this (not safe for work and most kids) clip on youtube by it's file code uj0mtxXEGE8 using the search from the home page. -
I've just about finished my 3 weeks with my trainer. I have also been driving 4 wheelers (cars) for 19 years. It's been 17 years since I got a ticket. I have been pulled over a few times but only given verbal warnings. Here's my secrets...Rule one, be nice. Always be nice and respectful. Give the officer a smile. Not a smarta$$ smile, but a "hi, how is your day" and be polite about it. Be honest. If you were speeding he knows it. Don't try to excuse yourself out of it, my daddy always told me there are a hundred excuses but not 1 good reason. Get the guy to laugh if you can. Chances are unless you screwed up pretty bad you will be in good shape. Believe it or not, donuts help. I like donuts and keep a supply in my truck. If I get a crabby officer I will offer him one, haven't had on officer offended by this yet.
But the best tip, obey the traffic laws. I do like my job depended on it (because it does). I plan to be one of those million+ mile drivers with a clean safety record and will do everything in my power to make it that way.
And never, under any circumstances, never ever make fun of the troopers hat. Just don't do it. -
Set your cruise at the limit and drive. I will go a max (knowingly) of 5 over for passing, gravity, and before starting up a hill. 6 yrs only speeding ticket I've had was because some ####### was riding my ### down a mountain, so I wasn't heavy enough on the brakes when i hit that 5 mark, kept easing on brakes but was at 10 over before applied enough to actually start slowing down, and came around a corner into a bear. I don't let anyone intimidate me, but not gonna lock em up with someone on my ### either. #### happens, sometimes it slips a little more on a hill while you're watchin mirrors, or hammering down to get to speed, just back it off when ya do notice. Nobody is perfect 100% of the time, but all driving requires is a little effort, something too few people are willing to put in anymore. It's not what you can do, it's how you chose to do it, showoffs and supertruckers aren't the same things as drivers.
