One possibility is the old man is a narcissist. They can drive people ####### crazy, especially folks who are not attuned or desensitized. What if the old man also used some shady wrangling to get the grandma put away so he could have her house? Then puts the kid on a bus immediately before or after. Just a thought.

Or just for general debate.. maybe the old man was chewing his lazy ### for just sitting in the house playing video games and surffing porn on the internet.. so the kid did him in

 

Maybe.

But on the other hand, that's exactly the type of stuff a lot of people resort to when they find themselves the target of long term narcissistic abuse. The narcissist doesn't want the target to leave, and doesn't want the target to excel at anything either, because if the target excels at something then it might facilitate them leaving. So the narcissist will secretly sabotage the target's jobs and friendships until there's nothing left of either. An artificially manufactured state of dependence, all easily blamed on the target's own supposed failings.

Of course, all that only holds true until the target reaches a status called devaluation. At that point the narcissist suddenly reverts from secretly maintaining the target's dependence, to simply wanting the target gone. So they might do something like suddenly hand the kid a bus ticket, or suddenly stuff his own wife into a nursing home....
