RickG you are right, i called La. DOT today and you can not have any lift axle controls in the cab or in drivers reach from the drivers seat, i guess that means you can't hang it off the mirror. there's lots of rock hauler in trouble if they start inforcing it on us.

Thanks for checking . We might save somebody a fine . One of the guys that got fined said they even have a notice on the wall inside the scalehouse about it .

RickG-
Guess I need to apologize while I am eating crow; I had honestly never heard of this. I really find it hard to believe that the major company I used to work for had this illegal setup, and that it was never discovered, as often as we were weighed, and inspected. These people normally go overboard when it comes to the legal stuff!!
Perhaps this came about after my separation from them, when they went to the "auto lift, steerable axles"
Curious Rockhauler, did the DOT fellow by any chance mention when this went into effect? -
No need to apologize . It's up to them to let people know . They should be notifying truck dealerships that are installing them . They probably didn't bother rock haulers much because you were likely to keep them down when loaded . They mostly picked on expediters . They're O/O's and might try to keep tire wear down by keeping the axle up .

I didn't ask when, she went this code and that deal and read things a lawyer would take a week to understand. I did talk to a Friend of mine who only does heavy haul, he has one lift axle on his truck and I think 2 on his trailer. I think he said he lifts the front and rear on the trailer from a switches on the side of the trailer and the truck switch is under the door.
-
Pair of switches on mine now, one in the vault behind the sleeper & the other one "hidden" on the dash. It's a real "bit)#" to make a tight corner with the pusher loaded. When the states start buying my steer tires, # $700.00 each, then I'll disconnect the "interior" switch.
-
I'm sure some of you tried to find the regulation in writing . I couldn't but one of my expediting friends did . http://tinyurl.com/cxww4q .
-
Michigan has a similar law, just a little bit different. You can have the controls in the cab, but they will pop you for an overweight if they see any daylight under the tires. The state gets almost all the guys when they are turning of course. A simple fix to this is to have a switch in the cab that will only dump the air, but not raise the axle.
-
RickG i read this and it sounds more like what we've always been told that you can have a switch in the cab but not the regulator, nothing like what the lady told me on the phone. La. DOT is getting like TX. call 10 time get 10 people and 10 different answers
-
Michigan doesn't want the regulators in the cab. They are supposed to be mounted on the trailer so you can't adjust the air while moving.
Ohio will also bust you for lifting an axle and going around a corner!
