Just unload it DON'T raise it!!!! Had a problem with one of "Ohio's finest" making a corner in downtown Warren, delivering a boiler insert. He didn;t like the fact that I unloaded the pusher to maje the corner from Market Street to Elm Road, over 90 degrees, so I just re-loaded the pusher, took nearly an hour to see-saw that corner, using both sidewalks, but, he was a "happy camper". He had tha "balls: to tell me that was how it was supposed to be done. Bet the folks that were delayed didn't feel that way <G>

I never heard about Michigan wanting the regulators out of the cab...I've been inspected up there many times and they never said a word. I guess you thought me something new. A lot of guys are now starting to run the steerable lifts on the trailer.

Yeah, why couldn't the extra axles be independent wheels, sort of like the front wheel on an airplane. That way you'd be able to turn and keep them down without problems.
-
LOL... you was going to WCI wasn't you? Thats also what you get for going into Warren heavy! That city sucks, if we wanted to take permit loads we had to have the city permits ($500 a year) plus a state permit which was only $50! The state permit routed us out a WCI to our destination, the city just wanted to make some money off everyone!
That is what I was always told. I've also been DOT'd and the lady just smiled when I opened up the door. I guess it's up to the officer? -
From what I've been told(and seen first hand), in WI, you can have the switches in the cab, but the regulators must be outside the cab, so you can't adjust them on the scale.
In MI, pretty much every truck I've seen has had the switches, and regulators in the cab..
In MI, you could never run a MI spec rig without being able to lift axles in turns.. Picture a MI log truck, a 7 axle straight truck, pulling a 4 axle pup... you are not going to turn with 1 steer axle, 3 pushers, 2 drive axles(sometimes three), and tag axle.. non of which are steerable..
Another example, is flowboy for hauling asphalt, they are a 8 axle trailer...50 feet long, and ALLLLLL axles... the front axle is almost touching the landing gear, there is no way your going to drag that around a corner..
Other states are different though, as was mentioned. I know of one person who was stopped in Indiana for lifting his axles on a B-train setup. The Officer put him on the portables with all his axles UP. The load was on a permit(134K), for a 7 axle train setup. Of course being that both lift axles were spreads(one on the lead, one on the pup), he was automatically 36,000lbs overweight, and got a HUGE ticket for it.. -
If I remember correctly MI will give you so many feet before and after a turn to get your axles up and down.

I think it depends on the mood they're in, I've heard of them busting guys for lifting their axles to make the corner and being told, I caught you with the axles up I'm weighing you with the axles up. They were garbage haulers though so that might have had something to do with it.
