Easy way to fix the "speeding trucks problem"

Make the fine for speeding $5,000. No speed limiter required.

All it will do is increase the time required to overtake, bc has tons of skinny roads mountainous and curvy too, you're better off to slingshot past if you need to. Let's ignore all the videos on this site alone or listen to the drivers or enforcement officers.

This is just another case of lawmakers manufacturing a problem so they can garner public approval.

I am so done with this industry.

So stupid. The only places there you’re going to sped is coming down the hills & mountains and they can just over speed and do what they want. Speed is not the cause of all these crashes in BC, it’s New Canadians who’ve never driven before and getting a new truck given to them as soon as they enter the country.

What’s funny is they cite speed as a concern for its involvement in crashes, yet they have the highest speed limit in the country on one of their highways. (The Coquihalla. -120KPH). And anyone who’s travelled it knows how dangerous it can be on the mountain passes where the speed differential is at its worst. - Cars maintaining speeds of 120+ KPH and loaded B-trains crawling up at 30-40KPH.

Slowing certain types of vehicles down while allowing others to travel substantially faster is only going to cause more driver aggression, rage incidents and probably crashes; in a province that’s already dealing with a lot of that.

Half the trucks in Ontario aren't even limited.

Did you know if an MTO officer wants to plug into your ECM you can say no. Don't know what software they're running or if their computer has a virus. They can fry your ECM. It'll probably trigger a nice long full inspection, but my boss said if they ever try to plug in, say no :|

    That should go over well.

Majority of loaded trucks can barely hold the speed limit as is in BC with the hills and curves.

I wonder what they will set it at. Speed limit is 100kpm everywhere except Coke and a short stretch of Hwy 97. Would be a shame to still be limited when you get to Alberta where speed is 110kph.
They mention safety to pedestrians in the article. That would indicate to me to apply to cities?
Just another poorly thought out policy.

Everywhere up North is 100 KM. I can’t see it making much difference for the guys staying in BC.

Gonna piss off a lot of car drivers. Most seem to want to drive 120-130 everywhere in the province.

Speed limiters are an absolutely stupid idea when 90% of the roads in that province are single lane each way and passing lanes are few and far between.

How are they planning on checking for a limiter ?? There’s a reason Ontario stopped checking and only writes a limiter ticket at 115 km/hr . Ez tap was about to proven ineffective checking them and they were about to lose a big case so they dropped it due to the possibility of having to refund every ticket that used ez tap to check ecm..
