BAC and driving

trucking 101....Dude don't drink....or keep drinking you'll be one less hazard on the road when they take your CDL....isn't that on the cdl test in your state.....clueless!

 

Some here seem a little extreme. I have been called last, last minute at 11:00 pm!!! to go to work. Sitting at home had a couple beers. Not on the schedule for a few days. Some of you who advocate that I should stop drinking a beer once in a while BECAUSE I"M A TRUCKER should move to a communist country. This is America the land of the free.

Of course my answer to the boss is a flat out NO I cannot come to work. Your employer sometimes has to realize that even though it may feel like it at times THEY DO NOT OWN YOU. It amazes me that some people don't realize that everyone who has a drink once in a while is not A) an achoholic or B) Getting behind the wheel of any vehichle.

Edit: I worked for an outfit in heavy equipment that was a real cluster****. They were always calling me to fill in for so and so etc. Some organizations are haphazard with personel and scheduling. This will wear on you ..i.e. you have not one once of life. One day visibly upset a friend pointed out a quote he likes (and I do too now): "Piss poor planning on your part does not make an emergency for me" . I know we all try to help our companies, but to the OP...I hope thius is not your case.

Im not trying to get underneath your skin but I seriously doubt everything you said. First of all if it would read below 0.04 it would not be considered intoxication assault or manslaughter so the lawyers can jump up and down and rant and rave till the cows come home! The other insurance company wont get cents because there lawyers wont make sense! Does that make sense?

 

In any accident, in any vehicle, no matter whose fault it really is, the person with the slightest percentage of measurable alcohol in him/her gets nailed for it. Seen it happen

 

Right you are - that means people should follow DOT and company guidelines, and use alcohol (if they do) with common sense. That doesn't mean people need to freak out and never have a drink, or that anyone who doesn't choose to go 60 days between beers is an alcoholic.

 

True that...I was comfortable having a beer at night when I was done driving for the day, or a glass of wine, etc. Little more if I wasn't going to work the next day. It's all in moderation and how your body handles alcohol.

 

Typical chicken little syndrome here in trucking... people overreacting over what someone in the truckstop said... some outlandish trucker story about how some guy had a beer 3 days ago when he was on vacation, got into an accident, and now he's getting the death penalty.

I saw the same stuff in the military - people dumb enough to believe what they hear, versus looking at facts and regulations to make common sense decisions.

 

Most of the time I just shake my head at what I hear from people or read on this forum.

 

In the military, and recently in the trucking industry, I've started rumors just to see how many fools would repeat them - usually pretty outlandish, so people with common sense would blew them off. I've been amazed to see how many rumors came back to me with embellishments that multiplied the original rumor.
