Did you try the 5.5' Francis? If yes what is the swr? I may have to get a couple but the only place Ive every seen them is at the Petro in Kenly Nc, or I bet Bob in Richmond Hill Ga has them but if I stop there you can bet I wilk also buy a new radio, he has a great inventory with good prices too.

Yup, the 5.5' Francis are what I have. Just screwed them back on to refresh my memory: SWR 1.2 ch1 1.2 ch19 1.3 ch40

I did not adjust them at all.

bored silly and wolverine11 Thank this.

That's pretty good for not having to adjust them. You probably won't do much better than that. I have the hustler FG27S 4ft on this pete that I drive. It still looks good after 5 years. It was easy to adjust the SWR too.

    wolverine11 and Hick Thank this.

Replaced my firesticks with two Browning BR-79 coil antennas with 16" shaft which puts the coil above the mirrors. The predators were sold out. It's a small shop, they're located at I-40 x126 Holliday TN. Also sanded off the paint on the mirror mounts to bare metal for a better ground. I was able to break the squelch on a base unit 14 miles away so it's a definite improvement. Almost bought the general HP 40W. She was swinging past 100 watts on the guys meter. This little Mirage 36 does pretty good though. Thanks for the help fellas my setup is much better now.

Notice any difference, good or bad, with the white noise/ static level with the Brownings compared to the Firesticks?

If the washer is between the mount piece and the painted surface what advantage is being gained by sanding off the paint?

    Hick Thanks this.
