Mad respect to all you heavy haul guys. No disrespect, but you can keep it.
Picked up my first load with my truck/step yesterday. Medium sized manlift. As I grabbed the chains and hooked them to my chain pull outs on the deck,.. I'm looking at the 7/16 chains and after doing heavy haul for almost a month dealing with 1/2" chains and such, I couldnt help but feel concerned chaining this thing down as the chains and even the pull outs made me think of a small childrens swing set in comparison to the gear I used in heavy haul. Found myself adding 2 more chains where normally before I would have just used 3 chains with 6 binders.
Not sure If I'm ruined or just educated,.. either way I'll never be the same.
My truck is running great so far. I said that last time and well,.. so hopefully its all good now.

Roll on 18 wheeler...
It's good to hear people still care about the load on their deck and not just whats printed in the regs.
Good to hear the truck is running good. Keep the noobs off your hood.Hurst Thanks this. -
Glad to hear you back in your ride. Good Luck!

Good to hear Hurst. Hope all goes well.....
I hear ya on the securement gear. I just decided to switch jobs to haul for a local equipment rental company. Went from hauling 2-4 loads a day up to 14' wide and 155k using 1/2" chains and binders exclusively, to now hauling 12-15 loads a day, with only 2 machines that even hang over the sides ( 120' and 125' boom lifts). So now I tend to overdue it with the 3/8" stuff too, lol. But you know what they say.....You can oversecure all you want, but you'll only undersecure a load once.....peterbilt_2005 and Hurst Thank this. -
Always good to be back in the saddle, especially your own!!
Glad to hear your concern about tie downs.
IMHO, 5/16 chains (think what you ment?) are for walking the dog with, and 3/8th's mininum for tie down on flats and steps. Their lighter but still good WLL, and you don't have the WLL on your tie down pioints, for the 1/2in anyway.Hurst Thanks this. -
What is the international hand signal to get the attention of a driver from your 4 wheeler that his load has become loose.
I got on i-75 last night for a short jaunt across town and a Pete with a lowboy full of Pump equipment and heavy duty hose blows by me as I enter from the acceleration ramp.
Soon as I got up to speed I was behind him and just than a single strap he had securing a large coil of 6 inch hose broke loose and the load was left unsecured.
I zipped up to him and just as I went to wave at him he must have noticed the strap flailing behind him and he hit the Jake and hit the median.
So what is the signal to get someones attention ?Hurst Thanks this. -
No,.. not the 5/16. I have 4 of those. I rarely use them except for the really small things. Could be 3/8,. I thought they were 7/16? The same size as my chain pull outs on the bed. They are rated something like 5500 lb wll?
