Back in the day . . .

the Windmill Truckers Center, the Windymill, Dallas Pike, WV where you could buy ANYTHING you wanted right at the fuel island (legal or not legal) and the Shenandoah Truckstop (not travel center) was state of the art at the time. And, yes, we did treat each other as friends. My, how things have changed.

well i havent been around as long as some of you...but i do know about most of what y'all are talking about. i have either heard about it from other drivers or my husband..he has been driving 28 yrs. I only have 21...but i too, appreciate the trip down memory lane!!! i miss how it used to be too!!!! but wow so many ol farts in one place!!!! LOL JUST KIDDING guys...thanks again!!!

HEY I represent that old fart statement, and guess what I still own and drive a cabover so I may not have grown up yet.I have been in training for almost 35 years now. Should have went to truck driving school I could have learned it all in about 12 days and could have been a professional by now. NO THANK YOU

 

how about a 220 cumapart in a autocar with a tag axle pulling a triaxle freuhall dump caring 35 tons of coal on a summer night shooting a foot long flame out the stack. still makes me all teary eye.

 

Love how some early on in the thread talk about how it was 30+ years ago ( like they lived it ) when they have only driven for less than 20.

Yes the FLAME out the stack was quite the sight .

 

I've only been driving for 14 years.... but some of my earliest memories are riding in Astro's, IH S models, 4070's and WT Ford cabovers. The sound of 6-71 or 8-71 is something you just don't forget. Hell.. I've been in a truck that had a wig-wag.
Really cool stuff for a 5 year old kid. I guess I was corrupted at a young age....
