I have been off the big road since 1987. Now I am going back out there....
How about bingo cards with the insurance stamps for each state and the state card for permits. do you still have to buy nv permit at the 76 in sparks nv. and ut permits at the port of entry I remember really ruining a mt. patrolmans day after he wrote the tickets i finally found the mt permit in the book but not where it was supposed to be... lol

Boy are you in for a surprise! Registration is one cab card, with a seperate sheet for Oregon, fuel taxes is a single sheet with two stickers, and NM is still a pain in the ###. (They have an advanced camera system that reads plates and usdot #'s off the truck, and still manage to be a pita.)

Forgot these...Having to clock in at the AZ port and clock out at the other end of the state and getting a speeding ticket if the time was too short lol. Miss getting paid double pay if u hauled a double load. Hauling 80,000 lbs of frozen OJ out of FL many many times on Fridays to deliver in Ohio on Monday in my 48 ft Great Dane. Was easy to go around the scales the whole trip back then. Scales closed on the weekends. Just had to toss those in the hat.

oh well I learned all that stuff the first time around , i reckon i can do it again...

i used to have to have a card for every state running 48 and then the bingo stamps proving insurance for each state. It was a royal pita!!!! but it was fun to f--- with the chickens telling them you didn't have the card then you find it after they cream out cause they get to write a ticket. lol I will be team , hope the co driver is up to date , cause i got some catching up to do...

Aw , brian, sorry to hear that man, thats real tough to lose your whole world like that, i can feel for ya , luckily i still have my beautiful wife. But the rest of my world has crashed around my ears in the last couple years, went from king of the mountain to back at the bottom starting the climb all over again , but the good lord willing things are starting to fall into place again and we'll have her in the back pocket again soon.... Keep your head up, mash your motor and keep on keepin on..... It gets better with each mile, before you know it you have arrived, destination , termination.....

What a thread. Been out of the game for the last 15 years now, but had 20 in before I left. First truck was a '67 Jap Freightliner. Drivers seat was bolted to the floor with the heater box under the seat. Had a Cummins 220, and 10 speed and a 24 inch sleeper. Most amazing thing I remember is there was no pump to tilt the cab. You just unlocked the safety, and lifted on the ladder attached to the side. And the torsion spring helped you lift the cab. The stack was attached to the back of the cab. What a hoot, I had forgotten all about that until this thread.

A couple of other memeories that either I missed in this thread or no else has brought them up yet.

    • 73,280 weight limits
    • Could only pull a 42' 6'' trailer and make the length laws
    • Husky truck stops
    • The "Fuel Center" in Santee Ga. (wink wink nudge nudge)
    • That great big round table at the Dixie Truck stop on I-55 in Ill. There was always room to sit down and have an intelligent conversation.
    • Those "Diesel Smoke Makes Me Horny" bumper stickers from Mass 10

The one memory that was brought up, that still tickles me is the broom stick for a fuel gauge I do not think I trusted a fuel gauge for the first 10 years. Stick the tank, how much do I weigh, how far to the next scale, put in N gallons.

thanks for the trip down memory lane.

    cheers

Oh yea the Husky truck stops. Especially in the western states. Husky was pretty good, although I always liked the Union 76 food better.
