Driving a smooth bore tanker teaches you to do this wheather you want to or not. Only way to not get your teeth knocked out you gotta drive smooth and steady.

I've driven a smooth bore exactly once. One bad shift and that load was surging for ten miles on the open road.

In heavy traffic I can only imagine the added concentration necessary to stay smooth. Ever since that load I give ample room for smooth bore tankers.

What a number of the postings here are describing is using the Smith System. The Smith System is not new, been around for a long time. The system works. The big thing is that to really get the most out of the Smith System, you need to start with a good trainer. One that really know their stuff, then work the levels. They get into some advanced skill training.
The basic that a lot of people know is just the start. Do a google search on smith system for the web site.

Space is a mindset knowing that a few seconds saved isn't going to make or break me .
I'm on elogs with a 70 mph governed truck and rarely run faster than 68 other than to pass .
Traffic was heavy today on 80 in Iowa and Illinois with the usual cut and slash going on ...just bumped the Cruz up and down between 64 and 67 staying in the right lane with lots of space and less stress .
    Let everyone else race .

EXACTLY what happened to me except it was a Ice Cream Truck van thing doing ~30 mph on I-87. Flat spotted 8 trailer tires. That was the moment I woke up. Tailgaters haven't had that moment yet

Last Wed a tanker flipped at km 568 and closed the EB for several hours.

Last Thursday a 7 vehicle wreck killed 4 at km 630 and closed it for 36 hours. A trucker named Tapanao was charged with four counts of manslaughter or something like that. I was in both detours. Gotta love the 401.

~6 weeks ago a Titanium driver hauling some type of acid was involved in a 15 vehicle wreck near Kingston at km 625. He took ditch to avoid rear ending someone but he died from exposure to the acid.

I agree. To some degree speed is irrelevant. It doesnt matter, within reason, how fast you are going, as long as you arent doing it right behind another vehicle.
