Hey everyone. I've been off the road for six years now and am fixing to go back out. Things have been going down hill fast with my current company and the money just isn't there. I wasn't married when I was otr before but am now with two kids. My wife isn't too crazy about me leaving and I have to say this is probably the hardest decision I have ever had to make.

How long did you drive before your six year break?

Did you keep your CDL up to date?

Do you have an offer from a company now, or are you looking for a company to start with?

    Best of luck!

Let me rephrase that. Its been six years since I've been otr. Its only been about a year since I really drove much. Once in a while I get behind the wheel of a truck but mostly I just do sales now. I'm going back to USA truck and hopefully it goes as well as it did the last time.

Since you have a lot of experience, why not local driving instead of OTR?

I hate to admit it and if my wife sees this she's not going to be happy but I miss it. Its in my blood. The hardest thing is the kids.

My experience doesn't mean crap anymore. Apparently if your not driving everyday you forget how to drive. Of course somebody forgot to tell me that I was supposed to forget. I can still drive and back up. So I have to take a refresher course to go back out and I don't have any money to pay for it. If somebody knows of a better company that will pay for a refresher I'm all ears.

I don't blame her either. I understand its very hard on her but I can't stay home. I was born for the road and watching the trucks roll past me everyday on the road reminds me how much I miss it.

You do know it's an Employer Market now which was not the case when you left the industry 6 years ago. A lot has changed for the worse for drivers. But apparently what You Want overrides family and economics. I could be wrong but that's how it reads to me.
