I was gonna say the same thing not only does it torque the kingpin but the tandems as well. I know if you have slid tandems you know what it is like to try to get them released with pressure against the pins :banghead:

Ya, I know for certain Schneider and USXpress don't have them. I can't say why though.:biggrin_25525:

Just curious, has anyone ever caught someone tampering with a tractor-trailer?

Criminal charges should be filed on these monkeys! The intent to cause bodily harm is sure present.

Monkeys? Why be nice about it? IMO, it should be a felony to be screwing around with someones truck, not just vandalism. I never thought it funny to be hearing of it either, regardless of the excuse a driver may have for it.

As another driver doing it to someone. He's creating the potential for a catastrophic accident, it's not a JOKE! And he knows what he's doing. :biggrin_25510:

Hang 'em high in the public square!!:biggrin_25510:

No, I've never caught someone doing it. But 3 things I'd do,
    1. Light up the cell phone and call 911
    2. Make sure the driver, [victim] knows about it.
    3. Jump on the CB, and let the world know as well. Who knows, maybe between myself and other real drivers, the fool could be contained until LEO arrives, assuming he was to last that long!

I agree completely! Attempted murder would be no stretch of the imagination, in effect that is what they are doing by tampering.

My question is why does Swift have the handle on the passenger side? Same for the landing gear.

Ya made me think for a second, I wonder what the TSA, Homeland security, might think!! Don't get me wrong, I don't want/need, anymore government intervention in our lives.:biggrin_25513: But just throwing that out.:biggrin_25525:

I always wondered why it would be on the other side? Most are, fifthwheel release/tandem pin release, on the drivers side.:biggrin_25525: Good question, I've no clue!!:biggrin_2556:

When I was in school and learning the pre-trip inspection, the first question i asked my instructor was "why is this so accessable and vunerable to anyone walking by?"
    He just shrugged his shoulders.

I know it is our responsibility to make sure it locked, I was just surprised how easy access the handle was to anyone. This is just one of the many, many things that have "surprised me" about my choice of career change. lol
