The bottom line is simply CHECK IT OVER. Anytime you are getting ready to move the truck after being stopped and away from it, or in the sleeper.

I know. It is easy to get in a hurry. I got in a hurry once and dropped the pup off a gear with a set of Rockies. Fortunately, the pup was empty. Nobody to blame but me. I thought the latch closed, but it had not. Just never get in a hurry. You will save yourself time in the long run.

The fact is that nobody is exempt from a screw up. It will happen. Most of the time we get lucky. How many screw ups do we make, that we don't even realize? Something to think about.

But the deliberate tampering with a truck is something that should be met with (I can't say what I want here, as it is against the rules,) extreme measures of education.:biggrin_25510:

lmao :biggrin_25526: never done it and it would suck to have it done but thats old school there didnt think guys/gals still did that
I rem in the old days a guy did that to the trailer tandem few miles later it about come out from under the truck knocking the safe stop out of one side
I have seem it happen 1000s of times at fuel islands in the old days not recently though
Best way to prevent it is back in set your trailer brakes then pull againest the trailer it will keep presure on the pin and they cant pull the handle

first week I saw one of our drivers drop a trailer so I always look to see if the pin is locked.I hook up and drop a trailer in the same order EVERY time, that way, when I'm in a hurry,I won't miss a step and wreck something.I double check everything before pulling out.it only takes a second, but could save a ton in time and hassles.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if someone pulls your pin, backing up is not going to make it lock again until you pull forward 4 inches or so. It simply releases the latch. The latch has to be cycled as it's J shaped. Pulling out flips it open and backing up into it flips it the other way to the locked postion.

I always tug test new hookups and am ready to catch a trailer on the frame if need be on pull outs.
I hear CB rambo's say they will pull someone's pin. Nothing but cowards.

Always check, everytime you stop somewhere, check

You never know when you could piss someone off on the road and they pull a stunt like that, then you are screwed, and if your load is heavy you will need a wrecker to come in,

I never had this happen but a guy i used to work with had it happen, and he got fired for it, so be careful.

Ok, I'll be honest..............If I see someone pullin someone elses pin, it's usually for a reason...............unless your some sicko with nothing else to do, watch how you treat others, be curtious, be a professional, chances are if you do this, your pin will never be pulled, I've sat in parking lots watching, and seen why they do it, it's never a random thing, someone pissed someone else off, unfortunately there both not professional, and i just sit back be entertained , now if i ever do catch the wacko that does it for the fun of it..........

And when the trailer hits the roadway, then you get to deal with The Man.

Yes, you can and most likely will receive a form, so that you can make a donation !!

Are you saying that if you watch someone pull someone else's pin and you think they might have done something to piss them off, you'd just sit there and not say anything so you can laugh when they drop the trailer?

I don't even know what to say to that.:biggrin_25513:

I all ways check in front of my tires anytime I stop for 1/8th penny nails. As I am doing this I also check my tandem lever and 5th wheel handle. Also before I take off I pull the johnson bar (trailer brake handle) all the way down to make sure the trailer brakes are working correctly. Here is a trick that some might not know about. If you take the blue line off and stick a nickel in there and then put it back on. then you no longer have trailer brakes. now what happens when you loose 40% of your braking power? Also can be done to the red line but if you are like me then you never pull out the red button unless sliding the tandems. I mean it does say not for parking. I don't pull the trailer button because if someone yanks my red line to try this trick I will hear it and be out the cab with a quickness. I even get up to look in my mirrors when I hear the drivers next to me close their doors because I have heard all to many horror stories.

Don't Let This Happen To YOU.
