Well to the "Linux doesn't get viruses" crowd, I spent the day removing malware off of my box. I won't get into how it got there but it got there and the work it took to clean up was just tiring because it propagated.
As for being easier - sorry but it is not compared to windows it is harder to work with. Compared to Mac, Mac has both of them beat.
I would not recommend dual boot, when I need to use windows, I use Virtual Machine and it works great.
I think if MS would have taken the approach of building a proper OS with proper ideas to go with it, maybe do what Apple did - copy ideas - then they would be using a linux back end with a good easy to use front end.
By the way, I used Linux when it first came out, it wasn't hard to install or configure then as it is now.
