We are driving down the road and are at high rpms around 1400 and it will go off and we shift and the light shuts off. The temp is around 180 when it goes off it happens approximately 40 miles after turned on. Never turns on when just sitting you have to be driving for it to turn on. It is a 1993 freightliner fld 120 Detroit diesel 60 series engine.

Well most times (not all) the stop engine comes on due to low water or oil pressure or a temp sensor is picking up to much heat or fan not kicking in. Around 40 miles from a cold start would probably about the first time the thermostat would kick open if your right on the verge of not enough water once it opens the level drops for a few turns on the light you slowing down makes whats in there move and reset the sensor. Double check that the water level is all the way to the max line let run for a little while and make sure fan kicks in and triple check your oil pressure guage at time light turns on. If non help dont play no more just wait till the other mechanic gets there.

Check your wiring off of ecm plug terminals, the ddec 2's were notorius for wiring vibration wear. Where wiring was assembled tight, they would wear through the wiring jacket, and short together, especially around the ecm. Any corrugated split loom conduit was another place they would wear, and short or corrode.

Okay thanks guys. But we have checked all wiring to ecm. We also checked all of the water line and the fan. Changed all temp sensors and oil sensor and when light goes on oil gauge doesn't move at all. Goes to dealer on Tuesday. Thanks for all of the help again!

Call Detroit, prove its yours, give them the Serial, they look it up and I believe they give you a 'seed' to rest based on the serial you give them. I've never done it, I believe I may have read this, or misread it.

It's quite simple, I would assume anyways...There is no lease agreement or it has ceased. OR, if someone randomly put your DOT numbers on their trucks and got a citation, you could prove that you don't own the equipment, you have no agreement with the driver and he is operating illegally.

It is easy and you're pretty close. The actual procedure is to connect with Diagnostic Link, go to the Calibrations menu, click Passwords, then click Back Door. You will see a "Seed #". The call Detroit with the engine serial # and tell them the seed #. They will give you the back door password. That password is good until the engine hours change, so change the password right away. The serial # needs to be what is in the ECM, which could be different than what's on the engine if ECM's were swapped, so double check.
