First, you are lucky you got a denial letter. Most times, you never hear from them again, and wonder how your status is.
Yes, Many other trcuking companies do a preliminary back ground check on you to make you a job offer, provided you pass that first round. Then at orientation, the bus rides home start! They will crawl deep into your anal cavity of your arse, and it can hurt too, but this is when they find out stuff on you that you either failed to mention, or tried to hide on purpose.
Some will do a credit check, to see how you are on paying your bills. If it shows that you miss payments, or are late too often, it shows you are not responsible, and a possible threat to the cargo, and equipment. I too think the credit checks are a farce, but it is what it is.
I'd nary worry about a rejection of employment, as it'll serve you no good, UNLESS THEY TELL YOU WHY!
And most times, they won't.
Move on, with your other possible jobs, but be forewarned, if you hide something, or lied, or even didn't put down the right times and dates, those too can disqualify you.

has anyone really been explained why you sign that form?
It isn't about a credit check from what I remember.Giggles the Original and Sean_Reno Thank this. -
I personally know (working) truck drivers w/lengthy violent and drug criminal convictions (I don't). I qualify for HAZMAT and TWIC, so how much do they really look into your background...its not like they send people to your house/old addresses, etc (I've had that type of background done before) LOL
The few apps I have filed out for some of the megas...asked for convictions within the last 7-years and driving history. I don't have any conviction within the last 7-years and I have a clean 10-year driving record (and never a DUI/DWI).So, should I be concerned their going to bring-up some long forgotten obscure conviction from 10-years ago

For anyone reading this I'm gonna give you some great advice since I believe if you've done the time you paid your debt .
Hire right/DAC doesn't have a database of anyones record UNTILL their told by a employer to check a countys criminal database for your name
Very very few companies run a background check by default mainly due they have no clue what counties you have resided in since their isn't a national database of all criminal records plus you know it costs more
Its up to you to make the final choice.Sean_Reno Thanks this. -
That's great advice! I was getting some info on whether or not the trucking industry is more...lets say motivated to look into your background.Last edited: Feb 26, 2015

that at may all be true but to a point ...
I do background checks on drivers who want to drive my trucks and I find out everything about them, from past residences to their criminal record - even expunged stuff. It is all out there.Sean_Reno Thanks this. -
I'm assuming as business owner your fully for getting as much info on a possible new hire as possible. But, from a drivers position, is it really the business owners business...assuming they have a CDL (can pass hazmat if required)...to know their past convictions (especially the expunged ones)...past addressees, military discharge, etc??!!

And the information may be out there, but its unverifiable, unsubstantiated and the applicant doesn't have the opportunity to refute any of the information

What it comes down to is that all skeletons in one's closet must be revealed and exposed. Nothing can be hidden. One's life is an open book.Sean_Reno Thanks this.

I don't believe its up to the prospective employee to expose all of their skeletons. Its up to the employer to find them.
