I'm not a new driver but could not figure out where to put this question or maybe its more of a rant. Not sure. I have 12 years experience driving. I left my old company a week ago because the owner wanted me to falsify my log books and drive when I was out of hours. I refused to do it. So I have applied to many places. I am supposed to start on Monday with this one company. I don't like the job but atleast I have one and it pays the bills. There is this other company I applied to and they really want me and I want to work for them. They sent me in for physical, drug test, and strength test. In the interview they asked me about my criminal background. I told them I have a misdemeanor that is a year old. It was for false swearing, had to pay $100 fine and in 2 more years I can get it expunged. The hiring manager said that should not be an issue but Corporate has to run a background check and let him know. I asked him if it would be possible to ask Corporate if this would be a disqualifier for employment before spending money on my preemployment test and background check. He said I need to do the physical and drug test, then they do a background check. This was a week ago. So I called the local HR person a few times this week and it is still pending. On Thursday she said the other drivers background checks came through and are just waiting on mine. I do not understand why the background check is taking more than 5 days. The only thing I can think of is the company doing the background check found my misdemeanor and is taking extra time to make sure it belongs to me. Now if Corporate knew about the misdemeanor and told the background check company that I do have a misdemeanor I'm sure they would not be investigating more, if indeed that is what they are doing. On the application it did not ask about criminal history but was asked during the interview process and I was honest. So the local level knows about my misdemeanor including the local HR lady. I took all the preemployment tests including a drive test. They really want me. I got a copy of my background check back from a third company I applied to within 3 days and it shows my misdemeanor. I do not want to start with a company and work for them for a day or 2 just to quit to go work for the company I really want to work for. However I cant afford to be out of work. It has been a week already and I need income. So the question is WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG especially when other drivers checks came back? Where I live the county court records are electronic so they don't have to go down to the court house and check my file.. My rant is this is so frustrating. I was open and honest about everything and I'm just sitting here over the weekend wondering if I'm going to get the job or not. I do know, if they do not hire me due to my background check they have to tell me. I'm just frustrated it has not come back yet and I don't know if I have the job that I really want to have. The hiring manager did say if corporate says no he will fight for me, but Its really up to corporate. Until I am filling out paperwork to get onto payroll I do not have a job with them.

Hey man make it a little shorter and we will, more than likely, read it all. That being said you did good to leave someone who wanted you to falsify logs. That is something an owner should never ask you to do.

I should not of made it long but wanted to get everything out there. The owner kept asking me and other drivers would do it but I would not. I do not want to lose my license or go to prison which would happen if they found out and I was involved in an accident.

The job I really want pays $20 an hour with 20 to 30 hours overtime a during the week with weekends off. Home every day. Early morning starts. Its driving a 48ft reefer trailer delivering meat to various store fronts.

I have no idea if its hirrite or not. If it is, then why did the other drivers background checks come back on Thursday? This process was started on Monday for ordering the background check. I even called corporate HR and left a message but they never called me back. In fact I went to hirerite website incase this company did use them, requesting my report from any companies in the past 60 days and it said it will take 15 days for me to get an emailed report.

It all depends on how fast they get the information back from past employers some are faster then others.

Frustrating. If they could at least let the company know about my misdemeanor so I can find out if that will disqualify me or not. Everything else I'm ok with on waiting.

Really don't think that would disqualify you since you told them about it and they still moved forward with you.Good luck hopefully this week will bring good news

Just talked to hireright. They said a report has not been ordered for me so the company must be using someone else. I'm always hopeful and things usually work out for me. Just stressful when there is a job I really want and not knowing what will happen.
