California is the same way. CA driving manual "Get out and look to avoid crashing", DMV test "Points taken off if you get out and look."

Kinda reflects their education system. Apply the rules of the test to real life, while you may pass the test you will fail real life. I'm sure they're approaching it from the idea "if they can get it without looking then they're ready" but it's still a hassle.

The DMV driving test out here is teaching me so many bad habits, I told my instructor that I'm going to sign up for more driving hours after I get my class A so he can teach me how HE drives smoothly without all the double clutching up and down and #### that makes me feel like I'm gonna crash because I have so many things to watch other than the road. :biggrin_25516:

If you get out of the truck in Md. they consider that as if you were done that evolution.

Thats exactly right. All new meaning. It seems like they don't want you to pass.

Its the same way here in NC you can't get out and look. And In SC when your doing your backing test the drivers window has to be up so you can't stick your head out, you have to use your mirror to do the alley dock (This is According to the DMV Tester that tested my dad when he got his CDL in SC in 2002).

I practice all the time. When I pull into one of our terminals and have time I will practice backing between trailers, blind side, the only way to get better is practice and rather hit an empty company trailer then another truck or companies trailer. I have gotten better. I completed a back a few weeks ago in Arizona pretty right basically a 90 degree or jack knife in. My 1st week another company driver was there and got it in for me, this time I nailed it with 1 pull up and a few GOAL's.
