That is true you need more room out front. But I have done it before to get between two trucks at a truck stop. I just couldn't get the angle I wanted with the tandems up and the swing came around too fast. As long as you've got enough room to work with it does make it easier and it definitely reacts slower.

Any tips about backing your truck between other trucks at the pilots are surely welcomed!

Psht! I wouldnt' bother. I saw what was almost a fist fight between a Heartland Express driver in a hurry and a Knight driver that simply got out to look too many times (twice) for his patience. All the while a chicken trucker was shouting insults over the cb. "If you have to look, you don't belong out here". "Amen", "You got that right" - replies.

That's all you have to worry about is almosts' and shouting over the c.b. Now this is not true for everyone but MOST including both of these drivers would more than likely pissed their selves if you just reached over set the brakes and got out to do more than almost fist fight and shout over the c.b. When I first started many many years ago(which means last feb.)lol some jerk wad was running his mouth at me because I was blocking him while I was trying to back in I heard enough so I set my brakes got out and I'm pretty sure he was already grinding reverse somewhere about the time oh I don't know he heard the air release because by the time I come off the bottom step he was well into making progress away from me and glad to get to. I never heard him or anyone else for that matter again and I backed in in peace. I'm not saying I'm bad or anything like that I aint even saying I could've thumped him but I am saying I didn't care to give it a try which was more effort apparently then he was willing to put into it. If you're having trouble take your time do what you've been taught to do or atleast should've been taught.lol

MOST of the "rambos" that spout crap on the CB are LESS than willing to get their butt out and back it up.

I'm glad I didn't have to try all kinds of little "tricks" when I learned, as a heavy equipment hauler - mostly fields, construction sites, and dirt roads, sometimes 1/4 mile long or more and twisty.
I learned early on not to drive the truck backwards - drive the trailer instead. Once that thought took hold I became pretty much expert at one-shots or taking a jack if I needed to...and ANYTIME I'm not sure what is behind, GOAL!
Those highway heros may be good or not; but pride goeth before a fall, and I'm willing to bet there are many CB Legends of the Truck Stop who've whacked a fence or car after telling you how dumb you are.
So, be the trailer, grasshoppah, be the trailer.:smt027
