Backup alarm defective and reverse lights don't work....

I'm just a low hanging Class B driver. For over 100 days I have filled out my pretrip indicating my back up alarm does not work. A few weeks ago, I noticed the reverse lights do not work on my 20' box truck. They refuse to fix it.

Also I ran out of pre trip forms 45 days ago, they have not given me a replacement book.

I really dislike this company. What do I do cause I'm tired of complaining.

 

They refuse to fix it , then u refuse to drive it... make sure u update the resume before making that decision

 

Well, you can:

Drive it
Not drive it
Or fix it.

 

Backup alarm isn't a required device, so if they don't want to fix it no biggie.
Now as the reverse light isn't optional, you simply refuse to drive it till it's legal. Or you drive it illegally and hope you don't get inspected. Or you get another job.

 

What about not being given logbooks for the inspection.

 

Depends. Do you require a log?
If you fall under the time card exemption you don't need a logbook, even as a backup to the ELD. You must be exempt though.
For a CDL required exemption you need:
1. 150 air mile radius from yard.
2. Start/stop in the same location.
3. Released from duty within 12 hours of coming on duty.

If you qualify, then all that is needed is clocking in/out at the yard. If you don't qualify, then yes you need 7 days worth of logs as a backup to the ELD.

 

Are reverse lights actually required.?
My '93 FLD doesn't have any. No one has mentioned it during a inspection yet..

But working one summer in Daytona beach, I was backing up at a quickie mart ~0530 one day on the way to the pier.

Local cop hollered over, "hey bud, you got a backup light out!" I says oh my, I'll fix it right after work today sir.. And he waved me off & I carried on my way. I did actually fix it that night, because I didn't want to piss him off. I bumped into same cop at that store couple mornings a every week..

 

Maybe the FLD has an exemption on not required then? I dunno...

Yep, the only exception I see if I'm understanding right is manufactured before Dec 25, 1968. LoL, missed that by 24.5 years..

Wonder if I got away with it because they just plain ain't there.? No empty light holes or anything..

Welp, maybe time to invest in one to be safe..

 

Do you have any sort of work light on the back of the truck? I've been told the standard (white) work light qualifies. After all the regs don't state it has to automatically come on, it just has operate in reverse. A manual switch does that. I don't know how accurate that is, but the mechanic who said it was good about knowing the difference between old wives tales and regs.

Would be nice if all the LEO's would not have gotten run off so one could answer this.
