I do remember my insurance company insisted both trucks be fully insured all the time, IF they were owned by the same entity that held the policy. I got around that by having policy under my company name and the second truck titled with my personal name. That way when I put it on the road I could add it and removed as the situation demanded. I also had a second trailer. If I had a load that had to sit I would just use the second.
Backup truck, just in case.

Awesome idea there.
Oh and update time, the prostar has pissed me off for the last time. And it is leaving for a dealership asap, and idgaf. The turbos stopped while hauling, with no boost the truck lost power and i guess it started making massive amounts of soot in the process.... the dpf is most likely clogged as the pressure check valve is open and letting exhaust out there.... along with the giant cloud of soot.... truck #2 is off on a run and I can't tell the driver to recover my load... but what ever, hopefully on monday I won't have to deal with this effing pos prostar/c13 combo again.... and hopefully there is a beautiful predpf/pre egr truck waiting there to be grabbed.... If not idk what I'll do... As this is the first dpf truck I've ever had problems with...
Oh yeah any suggestions? Here in Chicago there are a crud ton of volvo trucks for sale (they make me very uncomfortable) and tons of prostars (haha not happening).... and not much else.... Oh and I'm staying far far far from caterpillar engines. -
There's still lots of nice pre emissions trucks around. Just have to be willing to take a road trip here or there. As far as your original question goes, having a second truck around isn't a bad idea. At some point I would like to find an older Marmon to restore as a toy/back up truck. The important thing is not to let them sit, especially if parked outside. That goes for any vehicle. I have an F350 that I use for occasional errands and to pull my skidsteer around. I always make it a point to drive it after it rains to shake the water out.
Bandaid Thanks this. -
Cat motors are good motors if you get pre emission ones. Truck wise, just start searching now and you'll find something close.
