Keep in mind that even if you go to work for a no-touch company, if you frequently drive in winter conditions and your employer has you chain up in winter, that's a back killer. My first driving job at age 55 when I started carried chains but didn't require us to use them. My second job with a small company had automatic chains on the truck which deployed with the push of a button. I've managed to avoid installing them during my entire driving career so far, and my back is happy.

Yes, the incidental things are as much a concern as physically restacking 43,000 lbs of freight
- Chaining to get over winter passes
- Duck-walking under a trailer to deal with frozen drums or other issues
- Climbing up to and getting off of a trailer floor (about 4 foot high), to sweep and clean inside
- Dealing with twisted trailers and difficult doors
- Pulling difficult 5th wheel latches
- Dealing with [sometimes] difficult and stuck hoods to do daily re trip inspections
- Nightly sleeping on less-then-ideal sleep support system (even mattress upgrade is not that much of a benefit compared to home systems)

When my back was bad i could sit all day, only thing that aggravated it was standing and had to be careful pulling 5th wheel pin. Your body movement compensates for the injury.
Everybody's situation is different. Some can never alleviate their pain.
Got back fixed 2 years ago so back to normal but I won't do any heavy lifting in order to maintain the rest of my discs.

Depending on the Dr that does the physical you may not pass. Depending on the company you go with they may make you sign a waiver that you can never file a workman's comp claim for a back injury. Most companies will pass on hiring you due to the possible claim in the future. Just loweri g the landing gear or opening doors on trailers can injury a back if not done correctly.

My back is ####. As was said before, no touch freight, and a good seat will do ya fine. The only seat I've had luck with so far is the Legacy silver seat from Pete. That thing is amazing.

You should have seen arkansas in the 90s. Made Michigan and Louisiana roads feel like riding on down feather pillows.

Look into the bose seat.

I ran one for a ywar and a half. It was absolute hell

You are the very first person I've seen give a negative review on them. Mind sharing what the specific issues were?Last edited: May 15, 2018

Well, what Bose sells isn't a seat, it's the electrics under it. And those were neat, though pointless imo. Not a big enough improvement to be worth a few grand. The seat itself: the lumbar support, the arch shape, the cushions, were ALL trash. Absolutely killed my back and butt.Jazz1 and spyder7723 Thank this.
