You're probably too young to remember the crash on the 605 ('86) when a propane tanker over-turned under the Live Oak bridge N/B side....
IIRC...The 605 N/O Valley was closed for a week..... -
Yep....How many times has a lowbed driver hauling a backhoe or Loader hit a bridge with the tractor and the news reporters say that a "Bull Dozer" hit the bridge???.....
07-379Pete Thanks this. -
Get ready for the real carmageddon.
-
Yep....I'm glad I'm running 15 today.....
-
Glad the drivers got out. Prior post said "that's where he chose to stop?". If im pulling a flaming tanker, I'm bailing out wherever the truck stops!........maybe before it stops!

I work near the 60/605 in Industry. Man, am I glad I took the week off to get ready for the holidays. The truck (Cool Transports/Paramount, CA.) did not hit the bridge. How it caught fire , I don't know..You would think they would have noticed a brake problem prior to this. They loaded at the Colton racks and dragged this thing almost 45 miles and didn't notice a problem ? Got to love those contract outfits..Bridge is being demolished and the 60 is projected to be closed for at least the next 3 days. But knowing Cal Trans like I do, it will take a month..(or longer)..Hope Cool paid their premiums up ! The projected costs of clean up and bridge repair and rebuilding is at least $10,000,000 according to a Cal Trans spokesman. That's some serious money.

Tuesday night they had a lowbed hauling an oversize load hit the bridge on the [email protected]'s been a bad week for the 60 freeway..

If the article is accurate, and the way it reads, sounds to me like the guy had at least SOME choice as to where he stopped.
I would put my safety second to the general public when the safety issue was my responsibility. --I think many drivers would.
He must have read my previous post!
Thanks for the update.
