The original intention of the sliding pay scale was to compensate drivers for shorter trips because of the increased time spent d/h or live unloading. Never mind the fact that this could be simply taken care of with stop pay (outside of multiple p/u or del loads.) Base pay should be for the longest trips. Starting an experienced driver at 26.3cpm though, wow. I made more then that at Swift when I started with them if I remember right. If this was me I'd be talking to some folks about being lied to like that if you truly have proof they promised you 40cpm as you might be able to argue they caused you damages by lieing to get you to leave your old job. *shrug* Not a lawyer, but that sounds almost illegal to me.

$8,000 bonus and 41 cpm? That's what the recruiter told you?

Any company that will hire a student fresh out of a CDL mill or without a CDL period, offer them a unlivable wage, and then tell them they'll never see home.
And make them a trainer 6 months later.DriverToBroker Thanks this. -
Companies who put there freight on trains like to use that sliding scale junk as well. You get an 800 mile load but you take it 100 miles to the train drop yard, and pick up one off the train and deliver it 120 miles to a customer that you have to wait until the next day when they open for 2 or 3 cents more per mile. I'm sorry you are getting bent over folks. Just say no to sliding pay scales and those companies who put their freight on trains.

this statement about railroad use of otr trailers is laughable...its from swift...
Note: For dispatches greater than 800 miles there is not an increase in the mileage rate because the railroads have depressed long haul truck rates. As a business owner, your competition is other truck operators and the railroads.
i know this is a usx thread but i thought since drivers mentioned sliding pay scale and i found this on swift website justifing why long loads are so cheap..
