Bad Experience with Trainer

As said before--you are Not in boot camp and He is not a DI--
Advise SAFETY of the situation, not HR.
HR could care less out anything..
If you can gut it out-do so.....do not quit in training.

 

but you're right. The wrong student will clock him upside the head . And tape his mouth shut.

 

Find a moment when you are alone.. "shower"... and out of earshot of the idiot... call SAFETY and tell them you are in training and your trainer is always yelling at you when you drive and you feel that this is causing you undo stress and concern... it is affecting your driving as you cannot concentrate on driving and this may cause you to have an accident... not your DM,, fleet manager,, HR..... SAFETY.... I would not want to be passing you and have you clip my mirrors on the passenger side because idiot was yelling at you and you turned your head and lost all your situation awareness... You need to be aware at all times of what is going on around your truck at all times when you are in the 1st seat.. your reactions to a 4-wheeler mistakes may save their lives.. even though you would probably not be charged with it..you will have to deal with the fact you killed or maimed someone... so take this job seriously and act professional... if idiot is yelling at you...then take the next exit...stop the truck and look at him and tell him to either behave professional towards you another professional driver or you are not moving the truck... if he continues.. call SAFETY..... You are a professional now even though in training... you hold a CDL A license...... be safe and the shiny side up... stand up for yourself...

 

Well, got back from a 17 day run, approx. 8000 miles. Things are going much better with the trainer as we understand each others personalities better. My request for a new trainer came through, however I turned it down. I only have 11 more days and the next trainer may not be any differant. At least I know what to expect from this guy, and he seems to know his stuff. I will finish training and get some seat time then go from there. Thanks for all the support it has made this experience alot better.

I'm glad you were able to sort your way through the BS. Trainers get aggravated, bottom line. It's going to happen. You might as well count on it happening. Does that mean he/she should rant, rave, yell, and scream? Absolutely not. However, we don't live in a perfect world where everyone takes other people's feelings into consideration before speaking or reacting. My trainer yelled at me a lot, and I remember how it made me feel. I grew up with being yelled at, so I just shrugged it off most of the time. I did yell back at him during the final days of my training and we didn't speak until I got dropped off in Tontitown at PAM's home terminal three days later. His only words to me then were, "You're gonna make a dang good truck driver."

The point I'm getting at is I think you've seen the big picture here and realize that it's not worth getting another trainer. Sometimes, although it may not be right, when a student complains to the company about wanting a new trainer, the company questions the student's ability to get along with others. It's best if a guy or gal can just suck it up, tough it out, and learn to see through the BS. Of course if the trainer is a real piece of crap and isn't safe or professional in his driving, then you should absolutely blow the whistle on him. I'd throw a trainer's personal hygiene in the whistle blowing category as well.

Glad to hear that you are sticking with it, I did not,,,,, big mistake, biggggggg mistake.

I am not doing anything right now, will go back out in March, hopefully with the same Company. I started driving at 64 years young, like to take a shower and use a restroom, if that gives you any understanding why I got off the truck. I should have stuck it out, never quit anything before in my life.

Stay with it, make your family adjustments and good luck, you made a good decision.

 

I haven't found any local companies that will hire a newbie. Some will hire with 1 year's experience, other require at least two, and I have encountered even more that want a minimum of 5 years experience before they'll even consider you.
I would say to try one of those temporary driver services - there are several of them in my town - but I know that at least the one I went through wanted a minimum 5 years experience. Funny how I could get a job driving for a company without even going through a driving test! Does having decades worth of driving experience automatically mean you are a good driver? Dunno, let your driving record speak for you more than anything is all I can say about that.

i would get another trainer why in the world would anyone stay with an a..hole like that yelling only makes a stressfull situation even more stressfull i had a pretty good trainer but if he kept on yelling at me id kick his a..
