Most people will only do what YOU let them get away with.
A few years ago I had a guy walk into my office. "F this F that F the other thing this is a bunch of Fin GD BS" ect ect.
I looked him in the face and said "Shut the F up".
The driver got a stuned look on his face and stuttered out "You cant talk to me like that".
I pointed at him and said "Thats 100% correct You cant talk to me like that."
A funny thing happened he did an on the spot 180 with his manners. He visibly relaxed and stood up strighter his exspression softened and he acted like a civile human.
I dont know if he was just having a bad day or if he went though life like that. Not that it matters becuse the moment he found out that his behavior woudlnt be accepted he changed.

I'm glad I found this thread - I'm going to pass it on to the bf who has been with his trainer 6 days. He has to complete 300 hours.
The bf said from the first day the trainer has been threatening to replace him with someone else everytime he grinds gears yet the trainer grinds gears himself and he's been driving 3 years.
The trainer threatens to call the 'fleet manager' and complain about how bad the bf is doing.
My bf said that his trainer has a thick haitian/jamacan accent that is hard to understand and he doesn't use the words "left and right" he just yells: cut it this way, cut it that way and when the bf doesn't get it the trainer makes him trade seats and does it himself.
My bf doesn't feel like he's learning. He feels the trainer just wants to sleep while my boyfriend is driving and is annoyed that he can't cause the boyfriend has had only 6 days (including today) of real life experience.
Just this morning the bf called and said that while he was driving a tire on the trailer became flat. The trainer told him to keep going so they would make their delivery. My boyfriend said he didn't feel comfortable doing that but said that the trainer could drive on the flat if he wanted. Of course the trainer didn't want to because he knew it was wrong and they pulled in somewhere to have it repaired and the trainer was really pissed he missed making the delivery on time.
My boyfriend isn't sure if it's worth trying to switch his trainer or if he should stick it through but this thread should help him make a decision. -
By all means, fire that trainer!!! Seriously.

Balls to sticking it out. If the trainer is behaving like a jerkwad, either take him out back and "educate" him to better manners, or get another trainer. I checked my CDL, and nowhere on it does the word "doormat" appear. Meaning I ain't nobody's doormat, or chewtoy. Maybe I have an attitude, maybe I don't. But I'll say this much, I treat people with respect, and I expect to be treated with respect. If I'm not being treated with respect, I'm out. End of story. And after some of the crap I've been reading on this forum concerning how companies are treating their drivers these days (expecially their experienced drivers), I'm starting to be ###### glad I lost my job last year! And I may not be coming back to the industry, either.

What company where you hauling for ?
-
That's probably part of the point: he wasn't even hauling, yet. This was all in the training phase...
-
My son says he is afraid to even ask for a trainee, because of different experiences he has heard of.
-
wow, it really sucks you know. alot of trainers was new to the industry at one point. where is the empathy ######

The majority of trainers, are still learning themselves. And barely have a grasp of the subject they are now teaching. And now count themselves among the "Gods" of trucking.ironpony and luvtheroad Thank this.
