Thx for all of your advice. I absolutely appreciate your wisdom. I was going to try to go back to school to finish my BSN, which would take 2 years, and then go in the air force as an officer w/a waiver, which is what my brother did. But I can't wait to support my children that long. They already have to go live w/their father now due to my inability to find work. I guess I'll keep praying. I'm just getting anxious.

One thing I have learned over the years is that every decision I made when feeling trapped or angry has been a poor one that I will regret.

I shake my head every time I read "I am in (insert your desperate prob here) and I think trucking will change my life and save me". I'm sorry folks but NO it won't. All going trucking will do is add a whole other set of problems ON TOP of the problems you already have. This ain't no Magic Carpet Ride.

In your situation I suggest this; check out the courier/parcel delivery outfits driving a van. Inner city or Intra-city, NOT the Expidited Freight outfits that run you all over the country. does not require a CDL A so you don't need to worry about affording tuition. It will give you enough driving time to give you a taste of the trucking lifestyle plus things like eating on the fly, dealing with crazy traffic while maintaining a schedule, getting good and lost.:biggrin_25523: But at least it'll pay you something while you sort through other options and keep you near your kids when they most need you.

BTW, any experience working in a psych ward will stand you in good stead associating/working with us and senior/hospice will explain a lot about dispatch.:biggrin_2559:

Keep a very, very open mind if you decide to get into trucking. So many people seem to think trucking will solve all their problems in life. I'm not sure why. In actualality, it could add to your problems. (the lifestyle, away from family, being in debt, health problems etc.) Good luck.....

Medical jobs are in high demand. Why are you having a hard time finding employment?

I'll throw some idea's at you...

If you are willing to go trucking, consider an union job. A woman is a shoe-in with any union as they have to hire so many minorities. You can go to any union hall and start an apprenticeship as an electrician, pipe fitter, laborer, etc. You can make good money right from the start and even better once you hit journeyman level. And any union I been around the men take care of the woman if they have problems doing something like handling something heavy or such. Look in the Yellow Pages under "Labor Organizations".

If you have business sense, there are many loans and grants available for woman to start a small business. You need no out of pocket to start up a small store or something. You could keep cost low by leasing a property. You could use some of the money to live on while you got things going. Google "Government Grants" or "Small Business Administration".

If you live near a military installation or a VA hospital/clinic, search out http://usajobs.gov/ There are many high paying jobs that require little or no experience.

I'd make sure your ex follows court orders. At minimum, there is gov't assistance to help keep your head above water. Good luck and I hope you get your Air Force dream.
