As I said, I see this kind of thing happening on NUMEROUS threads.. not just the one I just read.. that thread is just what mainly set this rant off.. I just don't understand why every seasoned driver on here thinks it's their duty to RUB the rundown of how difficult everything is, such as getting proper training, getting hired, passing the DOT exams, Getting a company that will treat you right, Home time problems, Pay problems, ETC.. yeah yeah, I think everyone has heard it.. But the guy wasn't asking for this, he was asking about companies that would even hire him and for schools he could go to.. NOT about the hardships of the industry

I see what you mean! LOL and that would be a good time to tell that person that the recruiter is a liar! but not every situation is a time to say EVERY recruiter is a liar because that may or may not be true to a question or post on a forum.. All i'm saying is have some respect to the OP'S posts!

I don't bad mouth the industry. I tell it like it is so newbies don't go into orientation thinking they're going to have the world handed to them on a silver platter. Sadly, recruiters will try to sell this illusion.

Telling them the truth in response to a question.. for example.. "the recruiter told me I'll make 80,000 dollars in my first year" would be a time to tell him/her that it won't happen.. but if he's simply asking about schools or companies.. Blatantly stating negativity about "how it is" may not be appropriate

Maybe it's just a personality thing that a lot of guys here have which is they feel they have to be "big papa" to tell the youngins about how hard life is.. Trust me, I've heard it from my own dad and I'm sure a lot of other guys have also heard it.. Work ethics are a BIG problem IN ALL INDUSTRIES.. Especially the general labor industry that I'm currently in.. I know all too well about lazy guys that think they can have everything for nothing.. As a trainer though, I also have to be aware that people have to be TUNED at a specific way, Not just "TOLD HOW IT IS".

yeah i know what you mean, it's not easy driving one of these monsters, and when i went through my training and first got on the road, i was over whelmed, and intimidated. You have a 40 ton piece of machinery that doesn't stop on a dime and when you get in an accident with a 4 wheeler, potential of you killing a family is greater since your vehicle is 10 times bigger. I had a whole new respect for anyone driving these things, and in the short time i have been on this site, seen a lot of support for people.

One thing i have noticed over the years from when my grandfather was a trucker to now a days, the quality of drivers is beyond retarded. When i went through the school, i couldn't believe the people they were letting drive these trucks, and even my job working as a supervisor at a distribution warehouse, i see these drivers coming to my warehouse from all sorts of outfits, i shake my head everyday at who are driving these things. 20 years ago, was those rough, tough old dogs who were those truckers, now you have people from every walk of life and country, when long ago was basically made of a certain breed of guys. I think a lot of the older guys are just disappointed and applauded at what the industry has become, all for the sake of money in the CEO's pockets, even at the expense at safety and tradition. I think thats where you see some of those guys with the attitude, frustration is one of the motivators i bet...but like i said, you can't let what people say on a screen get under your skin, for every one half wit w/attitude, i have seen 5 people who are helpful and willing to give their advice.

Oh and don't get me wrong, I'm all for sarcasm or critism when it's due.. it's just when someone that is looking for help is ignored.. Those that are ignored are the ones who continue to be drivers but then crash and kill a family all because the seasoned guys didn't want to help the NEW guy.. remember guys, when you don't help the new guy, It doesn't help you! When there's a new guy wanting help, help him, just remember that the next time a newbie backs over you at a truckstop because you didn't offer to help spot him or answer a question about backing on this forum perhaps!

It is appropiate. Otherwise these students become a statistic. But, I'm not biased either, so I'm not going to say "avoid this company because of this".

Lil bit overly biased there about who is at fault for a driver crashing aren't you smooth? I'd love to see that in court "if they had told me the good news of trucking on that forum I never would killed those people". Alot of these newbies (myself included at one time) don't take the time to do the homework themselves, they want immediate answers given to them, meanwhile if they had looked around a bit more on the boards they would have found all they wanted to know and more.

If a driver kills a carload of people, and/or backs into my hood, it sure as hell isn't because he didn't get certain answers on a forum. C'mon.
