They have also done it to me I deadheaded 60 miles to get a load 5 mins before I pulled in he called back and said canceled the shiper called and said forklift was broke I said so this pipe yard only has one forklift? He said sorry I he didn't want to pay for a truck not being used I was pissed looked on the load board and what you know same load by someone else called them broker said they send 10 trucks a day there and have more than one forklift I took the load from that broker so I ended up doing that same load anyway just for $100 cheaper

National Average price for Diesel as last Monday is $3.854 per gallon, my FSC is .53 per mile added to my base rate and my fuel cost is only .41 cents per mile average for January that is netting me an extra .12 per mile profit just from my FSC paying for all my fuel plus .12 extra profit per mile.
Let it go to $5.00 per gallon with my FSC going to .76 per mile and my fuel cost going to .55 per mile with profit up to .21 per mile after fuel cost with the FSC.
$5 per mile would thin the herd and increase my profit.
I want to thank all those 5 mpg trucks out there that help set the FSC standard. -
I would have called them back and asked to be paid TONU. I had landstar agent tell me recently that she was doing me a favor paying me. I toild her someone was going to pay her, shipper or original broker. I was paid a few days later. It's all BS if they don't pay I don't wait long I call the shipper.
You can collect of a shipper if the broker don't pay. It happened here in Bham a broker skipped with the money and shipper hasd to repay all the carriers. -
Funny.. I had one like this last week. Told him what I needed and got the "I'll call if I can get your rate." I told him don't wait too late.
Surprisingly, he called back later. About an hour after I moved the truck MT. It felt really good to let him know he missed it by an hour and that it was already headed out empty and too far off route to get his load now.
Even better, another guy from the same office called two hours after he did and I got to tell them again LOL -
When I was still pulling a van I would get these repeated calls from different people at the same CHR office with the same cheap load. Every call I would bump what I would take by $10-$20. A couple times when they had my account open they would call me on this. Just told them I was doing the reverse of what they would do.
And twice got called back asking if I would take my original offer. Once was already booked and the other time I got them up even higher.
I'm glad I don't have to take those calls anymore. -
Today starts the cycle again. 2.25 @ mile for OD load, 10foot wide 2K going Al. to Pa.. TQL claims the monday cheap turd award so far.
Last week wasn't bad. Just not enough miles was supposed to load Fri..
Time changed was raining all day and I asked whats the use of trapping in the rain? seems kind of like a oxymoron? Maybe they thought I was calling them stupid, truth Be known I was. At leaast I'm at the house, sat and enjoyed coors light past couple days. Now it's work time. -
Apparently you look at each individual haul and not overall monthly. This is the nature of the beast. Production states vs consumption states. If this is how you go out of business, there won't be any trucks on the road.
If on a round trip you average 2.00/mile all miles, I say you are doing pretty good. This system works for me, only you know your bottom line and have to find a niche where you can profit. -
They did this shieat with me about 3 months back. I still pull for them, but if no dispatch with in 10 mins of rate confirmation- I pull the truck.
I'm in Nogales today and they are begging for the truck. I'll hold out few more hours and get the min 2.50 out to north east. -
Today shall be known as FFM (free freight monday).
Loads were priced so cheap I had to ask:: "for that price you're going to bring it to the house, load it, tie it down and tarp it for me aren't you?" -
No your looking at it wrong, you always need to be making profit, I do have a bottom line, but at my line I could run all day and make a living, but if we all start running at your price we would all be out of business, you should be able to see that.
there is no way at a 1.10 you are making money, your just creating more bad paying freight.
you need to learn that there is no such thing as a back-haul.Les2 and Motownfire Thank this.
