And you need to learn how the market works. The rates are what they are, if you prefer to sit or run empty and for some reason think that makes more sense...well more power to you. If freight paid great per mile rates from both ends, there wouldn't be any debate. That is not the case.

And please don't think by the running the way I run, you would be out of business. All my runs make profit, some more than others. You can say there is no "backhaul" but it exsists- you choose not to run with whats given and thats fine. Its consumption states vs. production states. Key element being to get back to production state.

Again, stop looking at every individual haul and start looking at end of the month miles/rates. If you are over all miles are being paid around 1.xx, then you are doing something wrong.

I wish that every O/O gets to see what and how big boys operate. They didn't get to where they are by being fools.

This is an endless debate on who runs their operation better. If you have a system and it works for YOU, be happy!!!

Matching it up with something and backhaul are the biggest lies they tell.
Building a load is a waste of time in most cases, look over at the
LTL fourum them guys turn over quick. If you start with somethingfor less than a dollar a mile thats what you have. Finally found one at 2.14 a mile only going 342 though.

can you explain how your run @ $1.10 pm is making you profit, and please don't try to pull other runs into it. because every load should be paying a fair wage. just because one company was willing to pay a little more to get something moved does not give the right for 3 others to under pay.

You continue to look at one run. I hope you dont come to norhteast and hope to get 2.00/mile freight back to california/west coast . 1.10 pays for fuel/driver and then some. And ofcourse coming out of salinas and taking a 2.20-2.30 headhaul pays for alot of toys.

You sound like the newby brokers out there, they want to retire off one load and seems like so do you. Oh and please dont bring in the crap of "fair wage". Whats fair to you is only in your head.

I hope you stick to your plan and refuse all the low paying freight and just deadhead to a good area. <<<now thats a plan that will bankrupt ya quick. Business/Common sense over pride.

Truly, ###-umption is quality unique to few and definitely you. To sit here and breakdown my miles and rates for a internet thumper dosent really seem necessary. As for now- Nogales to South Plainfield NJ- 2.17/mile :)

    Enjoy your day!

While I am not a believer in hauling cheap freight, it is about supply and demand. No amount of sitting or bouncing out of the Northeast is going bring rates there up to where they should be. There is far more population there than goods produced.

SpankingGT is of the opinion he is willing to accept a low rate to cover expenses to reposition his truck. Truckon wants to wait until he finds something that meets his standards. Arguments could be made on either side.

Truckon, one thing you are overlooking is opportunity cost. You are the owner an expensive piece of equipment and there is a cost of it sitting idle. Revenue per day/week/month can be as important as revenue per mile.
