I don't have a RV but I do have a decent size truck/trailer we haul the race car with (f750/36' trailer) and I've never parked at a truck stop. I do use truck stops for fuel because 99% of the time it's much easier than trying to wedge into a diesel pump at a lil gas station but we do sleep in the truck and I can get away with parking that thing pretty much anywhere (mall parking lots, target, etc) so I wouldn't want to take a spot away from a dude who's working, needs to get off the road to be legal, and doesn't have those other options like I have. Truck stop is for trucks...don't care if they call it a travel center or whatever it's for trucks. I wonder how the camp grounds would react to a Freightliner with a reefer pulling in looking to park? Lol.
Bad stop

Now I've got a question, I wasnt able to get a picture, so I was working by Arrowhead travel center today( Pendleton, Or.) and saw a full size Frieghtshaker full size 5th wheel, dragging a 5th wheel RV, DOT# name on the door, pull in. Where does he park to keep everyone happy? He went to the truck section by the way.

He's not allowed anywhere lol.Upinsmoke, D.Tibbitt, Cowboyrich and 1 other person Thank this.

That's what I was thinking! Lol now I have used truck stops before but its normally off hours when the sun is out and only for a few hours, and yes I buy fuel and a few things inside(not "food") then leave. The reason I use the truck area is because after I'm all together I'm 71' with the sterling, 5th wheel and tool shed. Middle day few hour nap I'm not breaking down and resetting doubles to avoid upsetting someone when the stops I use are pretty empty midday.Upinsmoke, D.Tibbitt and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

Forgot to say in that area I would have gone to Wildhorse casino and parked there usually quite and parking for large vehicles.

That is one of my points. The tractor you see in the avatar pulls my personal 35' toyhauler, when I am on vacation or relocating seasonally. I buy fuel at the same truck stops I use when hauling regular semi trailers. According to some here I shouldn't be allowed to park "in a truck stop"
My definition of a "truck stop" is a business that caters exclusively to large diesel trucks. And does so by only selling diesel fuel, no gasoline. After 43 years out here I have watched all of the "truck stops" go out of business, I don't know of a single one left, but I am sure someone will point out 1 or 2. They became travel centers for a reason, to survive and increase their market penetration.Upinsmoke and Cowboyrich Thank this. -
Exactly the last 2 places I remember (now closed) were Donna's kitchen in grass valley Or. or Kurgers truck stop on WA 14 Plymouth to Portland. There are no TRUCK STOPS anymore in my area. The wife and I actually talked once about possibly trying to get into ownership of one....but that went to the wayside once we really started thinking about it. Still wouldn't mind a TRUCKER FRIENDLY diner however (no steering wheel holders if it could be prevented) nearest place that tryies to call itself a truck stop is king city in pasco and it's a dump.Upinsmoke and Studebaker Hawk Thank this.

S
Studebaker Hawk,
You are so right on this. I started driving back in 1969 and Truck Stops were exactly that. Now with every one a Travel Center the times have changed just like the attitude of some of today's drivers for the most part. I am retired now and pull a 40' 5th wheel and Dodge Ram 2500 as we are "full timers". I will only use a travel center parking lot with pay to park because a lot of drivers will not pay to park but I will if need be. I always reserve my overnights in a RV park and pay the $35-40 a night if possible. Also I use the RV parking at the Flying J's unless some inconsiderate drivers decide to park their semi there because it is too far to walk from out back. The days of old are gone and will never be back.Upinsmoke, kemosabi49 and Studebaker Hawk Thank this. -
I would never understand why u would want to park in a piss soaked truck stop with a camper anyways. There is to many beautiful places to park rather than a parking lot that stinks like piss and probably next to some rattelly reefer hauling ice cream in the summertime. Not what i would do but to each their own i suppose
