The exact question right on the spot....granted many trainers are jerks, but I think a larger number are, or try to be a good trainer/Mentor. It also depends on what kind of trainer/Mentor did this current Mentor have...could be a factor...to many things are possible...and I doubt we will ever get a complete story from BOTH sides.

Likewise I had a lot of friction with my first trainer as he was going through a lot when I got on his truck. We became friends after the fact and I respect his trucking knowledge and experience, but it was rough at first. Tell him to hang in there, it gets better!

*EDIT* I read further on that he is coming home, well, best of luck at the next company. Hopefully not a mega, but it's hard not to have deal with the mega's when you are new or getting back in the game.

I must be one of these "jerks" you speak of. However, if you re-read my post, you will see that all I'm asking is what's the other side of the story?

You will find there are three sides to everything: Your view, My view, and, somewhere in the middle, The Truth.

    Marcus Aurelius observed:
"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth."

Therefore, whether it would be a lie or not, I would like to hear the other side of the story.

Ms. butterfli73 should be commended for her support of her husband. That is something you don't see often any more. And it is as it should be. You support your spouse, mate, significant other...whatever you call that person...regardless of whether they are right or wrong even if you don't know the whole story. So I completely understand and expect her to take the stance she has. I respect that. Major KUDOS from me.

There is always another way, you just have to be willing to search till you find it. If Im out of a truck for 5 years I would not go back to school, would not, nor would I be willing to go to work as a trainee.

You may have to go to 5 or 50 companies but you will be able to find (usually a small or local company) that will take a chance on you.

I would think most anything would be better than to suffer thru this. Try bottom dump dirt haulers, Grain or feed, Cement Companies driving Mixers they know they have to retrain every driver anyway.

Then its my belief if you have school age kids, you should be driving local or regional anyway, but thats just opinion.

Bottom line I would not stay anywhere that made me that uncomfortable.

I have been a Swift Driver for 11 years. When I first started, I went through the same thing. I had a mentor that was only in it for himself. Had me drive all the time, and when he was supposed to be driving, he went to the closest Casino. I put up with it becasue I knew when I was through with him I was going to do all I could to get him fired, which I did. so there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Like I said I have been with Swift 11 years now, and they have treated me more fairly than any other employer in my life. So tell your husband to stick with it, it is a good job and life to look forward to.

Actually, No. Not you. I liked and for the most part agreed with your posts.

Honestly, I think this issue should have never even ended up on the forum. The DDM/SDM/whatever the hell it is this week shoulda been called and this shouldve been dealt with the first week.

I agree with you about her support of her man. I wish my girlfriend would have been supportive of me instead of being a dumb ### ##### about everything.

these were what i was referring to:
And no, powder joints is not a jerk. But thats the kind of BS i'm talking about. As if every trainer is perfect, right....

Again, as if every trainer is perfect.

Same, but i love how people say "no disrespect but" or "no offense but" right before they say something 100% disrespectful/offensive...

LindaLout- What do u mean "DOES TRUCKING OWE YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND? I THINK NOT....." Well I assure this trucking company does considering MY HUSBAND has been dealing with the mentor for 6 weeks. AND Swift should not be able to get away with this, meaning Swift should not allow these mentors that r suppose to be training their students on the road for 6 weeks to be able to treat them like they r a piece of crap. Like they r worthless, treating them like 5 years old instead of an adult. I don't care if I'm just hearing my husband's side of the story, I believe him and that is all that matters. The otherside of the story would probably lie to make himself look real good and innocent. I know the saying "Innocent till proven guilty". Well I can tell he is a pompis a-- p----. So conceited, thinks he is better than everyone and I do mean everyone, and much more I prefer not to repeat. So don't tell me they don't us anything. a mentor that yells, yelling because he went to the bathroom ( and this did not only happen once), putting him down cause the way he looks, putting him down in other personal ways, and more. Threatening him with his job. I consider this Illegal.

Yes he did have the chance to change mentors. At that time they had worked it out. lasted only Less then a week. Then the mentor got worse with his attitude. Apparently my husband is the only student that has lasted the full weeks with this mentor. Husband has made the call to Swift. That is all I'm saying about that till I get more details from my husband on Monday when he is home.

I agree that some people have no business being mentors and I am glad your husband made that call. I suspect that if other students voiced similar complaints that mentors days are numbered.
