Yes I agree especially people not realizing how much more work it is owning a truck than driving.
I tell people if you are not your current employers best employee you are going to have a rough time because you are now the only employee, in your free time instead of watching porn your going to be watching videos on how to repair something wrong with your truck and doing research into all the other things like taxes, insurance , fuel milage, cost per mile and trying to figure out were all the money went at the end of the month.
I like to tell people owning your own business is great because you only have to work 1/2 days and you get to decided when the 12 hours start of course in trucking its More like 15 hours.
Bad time to get in

I started out on my own in a worse time with way more people telling me not to. I did it anyway and have no regrets. -

I'm preparing my taxes. I paid $1,000 in legal fees for someone to set things up. I didn't know then I could have done most of the things online for no charge. I don't know how much OOIDA charges. That is quite a bit but saved me a lot of frustration.

Spending that $1,000 getting setup, cheap education.
Now you know, what you didn't know. The good part is you shouldn't have to pay anyone else to file the paperwork every year.
Think of the penalties given for wrong or late paperwork.
Worse as an Owner operator, get shut down during an inspection in your truck. All the paperwork is back at the house. That was a big challenge before the internet.
I suggest your first year pay to have a professional prepare your taxes.
Wouldn't hurt to have the tax return reviewed by 1 or 2 other professional s. That is how you learn who is good.
Good luckMidwest Trucker Thanks this. -
I don't know what's happening wherever you are at, but in my neck of the woods the local fuel stations around me were all $2.75 a gallon for quite some time. Yes there are places on the road I can get fuel cheaper but I'm just saying that the regular fuel stations in my neighborhood were 275 for a long time.
Nothing has happened yet and the price of fuel has risen. Now those same fuel stations are $3.10. The loads that I have been doing I really don't see many of them right now. Maybe it's just the drop off after the Christmas rush, I don't know.
I'm not saying I'll never find another good load I just don't see what I saw before that's all
And again not being political but the new Administration has not even taken office and I see things that don't look good already.
Not a good time to be jumping in.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
