The red headed stepchild of real APUs. Prob bad idea if you live where we live. Those prices need a lot of work. I’ll be hanging around the website, but the dealer has to be ready to deal with reality
If he quit because of the rates before, you are just asking for the same outcome at the moment. Parking lots are full of trucks sitting idle. We started three months ago, got on the road two months later, and now we entered a survival mode. Look for the equipment you want to buy to track rates. Before getting into anything, call an insurance agent to get an idea how much it might cost you to operate. Check several places. Some have been astounded after getting their rates.
I'm just getting out of hotshot. Been in since 2014. Going back to Semi. Freight is getting harder to come by in the hotshot. I would be cautious about going into the hotshot these days. Good luck
It’s anyone’s guess, how far prices will fall, They fell hard in 2000, again in 09, should fall more this time. Except interest rates are very low, and money is available to lend. I’m curious to see, if insurance rates for start ups drop. Might see an increase in Competition based on Supply and Demand, It happened with Life insurance rates 12 yrs ago, as Investets flocked to safer investments. I expect Lower Shop Labor rates, are next. Along with Auto Dealers offering Service specials. It’s good to have everyone competing for your Bussiness. Whole Trucking Industry has been bloated, ready to burst. This epidemic just forced the inevitable on Us quickly. Who knows, it may work out better, than the long dragged out downsizing we were starting to see.
LET ME SAY THIS.... I'm a garbage man of 15 years. I often fill in for trash companies when needed. IF COMMERCIAL TRASH IS SLOW... wait 6 months before trying to start that trucking business. Unless you have solid & secure contracts & contacts.
We don't many garbage men on here. Completely different perspective than the rest of us. I guess you can tell a lot by the amount of trash Being picked up.
Front load commercial trash and recycle really changed on the amount of tons being picked up... It really reflects on business or company and how it effects you the truck driver and then it effects us the trash hauler. Grocery trash and recycle is still going good,,, but other public businesses I feel bad for them. I wanted to use my Class A this year to start in trucking and try something new. But,,, here we are waiting for the business world to open up again and get the wheels turning.
I would buy the equipment that’s needed first, ahead of time in order to take advantage of all the incredible once in a lifetime deals. But I would then hold tight with the Tanker job until the rates improve in 6 months or so.. keep the bird in your hand until you can get the other 2 from the bush.
