Soon we will all experience what America looks like as every industry is full of lazy newbies with ZERO work ethic or ANY ability to overcome some adversity. We'll have electrical blackouts, airliners flying into other airliners, water and sewer systems inoperative for days, etc.

"Trainers" are a somewhat newer necessity. Way back when you had Dad's and uncles, friends and neighbors, or maybe you grew up on a farm or ranch around large equipment and you wanted to be or become a truck driver.
These were the mentors who showed you how.
Not one was motivated by money.
It was something like goodwill, friendship or paying it forward.
Maybe you were driven to learn to drive regardless of how it happened because you liked to drive and thought you'd make a good driver.

For many today imho, it's a last chance career or an easy job since the have a drivers license and can operate a car.
Or maybe an immigrant who can start earning immediately.

I've been asked several times if I had any interest in training and my answer is always no...

My hat is off to anyone who will train newbies for the betterment of this industry as a whole.
    We sure do need em.

I joke that I'm not so sure I had a good trainer. It took him 10 years to prep me to take the test! It couldn't have been that I was only 7 the first time I sat on his lap and parked a truck? Nah!

I looked for it, but haven’t seen this question answered by OP. Did I miss it somehow?

Cornbread language, homey: If you have a disagreement with your management, trainer, another driver, customer, DOT….anyone involved with the job, you should be the one handling it. Not the wife. It’s not her job, therefore it’s not her place. That’s probably the gist of what the trainer told her. Kudos to the trainer.

@gentleroger, I am sure you have experienced this before. Thoughts?

I'm going to get after you a bit. Please don't take umbrage and take this in the spirit that it's offered- trying to give you some perspective.

Ask yourself WHY have you done no unsupervised backs?

Is your trainer having to stop you from hitting things or from getting into a position you can't get out of?

Are you taking an excessive amount of time to get in the hole? For a standard back you should be in within 10 minutes.

What steps have YOU taken to improve YOUR experience? Have you made time to discuss your concerns with your trainer? Have you politely and CLEARLY expressed yourself?

I have no doubt your trainer is substandard, but from what I've seen so far - you're not a great communicator yourself and you seem to just allow things to happen to you. I could be wrong, but that's the impression you've given me - particularly with the fact that your wife has communicated with your trainer more than "hi, how are you, have a nice trip" when she dropped you off. Even if you get a different trainer, nothing will change until YOU make it.

Take note of those personal traits and behaviors and strive never to adopt them. I lost count of how many drivers I knew that neglected thier teeth and are now without. Taking care of your personal hygiene and healt isn’t nearly as hard as they make things out to be, it’s really just being lazy that gets them!
