I think trainers are more for insurance purposes. How many stories do we need to hear? I'd recommend Watkins Shepard, no trainer time and their safety record is completely inline with those that have trainers so you can't say it's a bad policy. Well, some will that maybe needed a trainer, not everyone does. It works and has for years. How you can live with a stranger in this small confined space ill never understand, I couldn't do it, especially with some of the ones you read about here. You dont need that crap. JMHO
Bad trainers cheap trick, do not fall for it..

I'm kinda on the trainers side. The student should know company policy. Ignorance is never an excuse.

That is one thing that has baffled me.. there was a time when people learned to ride a motorcycle without forking over money for the motorcycle safety class.. and, there were truck drivers before tbere were CDL schools and lengtny training times..
A neighbor of mine was a truck driver and had to learn to drive pretty much on his own in a truck that had 3 gear sticks... I saw pictures there were three gear sticks... one was like the main one, the second was what we now just flipup , and the other one was like the red button on 13 speeds...
He was sent out over the road.. and there were no cell phones. Could only call for help when he was near a phone.. or a fellow trucker would call for him if be was on the side of the road and. Could reach someone on the CB...
When I think I have it tough.. I just go have coffee with him and listen to a few of his stories.. and I leave realizing I got it easy in comparison...
Back then tbe driver was responsible and accountable for things... if he hit something.. it wasnt tne companys fault.. it was his.. when he messed up other drivers would say he was a bad driver.. not he is with a bad company. -
Are you sure ignorance is not an excuse.. it seems to be overwhelming supported...
I 100% agree with you... as a new driver you got tnrougn orientation, they go over policy with you and they give you a handbook for reference.. and if looking it up and reading is too much work they have an 800 number fully staffed to answer your questions...
You are rigbt.. it doesnt matter what they does or does t do.. each individual makes tbeir own choices...
It is against company policy... so what, I will do it.. oh no, poor me, I can get fired.. but I am blamless it is the company and trainers fault..
I am all for personal accountability...HotH2o Thanks this. -
