Slow I have to warn you, this is all from 38-40 years ago when I was at university, so there is a lot left out, a lot forgotten but more or less something that is practiced by our radios daily.
I hope Brandon comes back and shows me where I am wrong or what I left out, I would like to see that so others will learn. I am not trying to slam him, he called me a moron which is amazingly off for him.
My oldest son isn't an Ivy league grad but he also knows this stuff and a lot more, he is in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic right now deployed somewhere in Europe.
Baffled by the range claims

Can any of you say your CB has a MAX distance of 800’?
Didn’t think so.

800-feet. Yup, you nailed the competition in Hirschmann Thin Film antenna performance class!!
otterinthewater Thanks this. -
Don’t worry, I won’t hold you to it. I just hope you see the humor.

Slow, I am older than you, I don't want people to know who I am but if they read and put the time line together, it won't make sense for that reason.
Slowmover1 Thanks this. -
Yessir, sorta figured both. I’m old, but you fit Ancient-of-Days in a couple of ways. Both to the good.

The OP sowed the wind. Reaped a whirlwind of 67-posts. Even a Book of Daniel reference and William Blake image.
So did he fix his poor set-up or not? (That’d be just like a day-cab jockey. Yard dog one day, KotR, the next. Here to ask a question, and gone before we get warmed up).

Reynolds HD Aluminum Foil (no generic) and cut/twisted to fit thumb, forefinger and pinky.
Be careful how far out the window you hang that hand, AND in what configurations. ESPECIALLY on the wrong side of town.
But, yeah, expect a 3-dB gain in signal strength.
Ever heard the guy calls himself Wendy or Walter on skip? Gets warbles, slides and echo-punctuation going? A regular MOOG synthesizer, that guy.
All from rings.
