    Truckgal13,
No extra training was not required. The first week we drove as a driver/trainer would then the 2nd week we teamed and put 5,600 miles on the truck because he felt comfortable with my abilities as a driver. The following Monday I got my keys as a solo driver and have never been in a truck with a trainer since.
I did not have the same experience as most of the classmates that I had. I live in South Dakota and made the move to Michigan for the schooling and then moved back the day after I passed my test. The market for drivers out here is quite a bit different then in Michigan. My fellow classmates went mostly with Swift to get the experience as at that time there was not too many companies looking to hire but that was 5 years ago and things might have changed since then.
do the best you can in each area of school and get as many practice hours behind the wheel that you can, do your time with your first company (minimum 1 year) and then u should be able to get on with almost anyone. Get your tanker/hazmat and doubles/triples if you can. You never know when you will need it.
good luck and welcome to truck driving!

    TruckGal13 Thanks this.
